Margot Robbie brought the character to life in the best way possible. However, she plans on making some changes.

Margot Robbie took to Instagram to share that the movie ‘Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’ just finished wrapping.
Fans can expect to see the spin-off of Suicide Squad in 2020, but it’s already created lots of excitement.
‘Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’ is already creating some buzz.
Since Harley Quinn is at the forefront of the Birds of Prey movie, which is being written and directed by women, she is making the character for women.
The film is centered around Harley Quinn and her separation from the Joker.
She then unites with girl gang Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya to save a girl from an evil crime lord.

“That’s what happens when you have a female producer, director, writer. Yeah, it’s definitely less male gaze-y.” she said .
Margot Robbie pitched the idea for the movie a few years back.
She told Collider , “I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, ‘Harley needs friends.’ Harley loves interacting with people, so don’t ever make her do a standalone film.”
She specifically wanted the movie to be R-rated.
She told Vogue, “I think there’s a perception that a PG female-led action film is kind of considered a chick flick.”
“She’s got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang,” she continued telling Collider.
“I wasn’t seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it.”
Robbie specifically wanted this to be a female project, saying, “And then of course having a female director to tell that story. And giving a female director the chance to do big budget stuff.”
“They always get ‘Here’s the tiny little film’… I was like, ‘I love action. I love action films. I’m a girl. What, are we meant to only like a specific thing’?” So it was a hugely important to find a female director for this, if possible.”
The honour to direct the film ultimately went to Cathy Yan, who is best known for her work for the comedy “Dead Pigs.”
“Cathy was the best director,” Robbie stated.
The screenwriter for the film is also female: Christina Hodson.
She took on Bumblebee back in 2018.
Other female crew include producer Sue Kroll and script supervisor Jody Blose.
On top of that, actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead performs her own stunts as Huntress in the film.
So, the new Harley Quinn flick truly is a film made from and centered on powerhouse women in the biz, and it’s truly taking a whole different direction for viewers.
Let’s face it, the original Harley Quinn was very much for the male gaze.
Her outfit was basically to impress male viewers.
But this script gives us hope for the new Harley Quinn!
When interviewing the star for Vogue, writer Irina Aleksander noticed something different about the vibe of this new
Irina observed that the new version of Harley Quinn looks more “Sporty Spice” and less “psycho schoolgirl.”
“That’s what happens when you have a female producer, director, writer,” Robbie stated.
“Yeah, it’s definitely less male gaze-y,” she said .
We can’t wait to see it.
The amount of girl power that will be in one film is going to be iconic.
