It’s not often a train of thought many of us like to board, but there’s some value in thinking about what you’re willing to die for.
Most of us might say that list begins and ends with our loved ones, while some noble spirits would sacrifice themselves to save any life. Moreover, history has no shortage of inspirational figures who were willing to put their lives on the line for ideas or social changes.

For one Michigan man, however, it would take the reaper himself to make him part with one piece of valuable property.
When 31-year-old Jared Kluting was out running errands in Holland, Michigan, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
As he told Buzzfeed News , he started walking home and used the same route he had taken hundreds of times.
Presumably, that Monday afternoon wasn’t the first time he had walked the route with his $1,700 Louis Vuitton bag in tow, either.
As he told Wood TV , the design of this particular bag is no longer in production, so he would have a hard time replacing it if something happened to it.
Unfortunately, something did happen and Kluting was approached by a man who was willing to take it by force.

As Klutiung told Wood TV, “It happened very fast. In one motion he took the gun out of his waist belt and with the other hand put up a bandana over his mouth and pointed, was like, ‘Give me your bag.'”
However, Kluting stood firm and told the robber that wasn’t going to happen.
As he said, “I was like, ‘You’re not getting my Louis Vuitton.’ I worked very hard for this and this bag I’ve had forever and it means a lot to me. I wasn’t about ready to relinquish it to some thug that was going to demand it from me.”
What the robber didn’t know is that this bag meant more to Kluting than money.
Not only does he seriously love Louis Vuitton, but he first saw the bag long before he could afford it and saved up for a long time to finally get his hands on it. He also said that it “represents him.”
But just as Kluting didn’t budge, the robber wasn’t planning to relent either.
He fired two shots next to Kluting and demanded the bag again. Kluting told Buzzfeed News that as soon as he saw the shell casings fly out, he ran north.
The robber fired two more shots, but fled the scene after the fourth one made his gun jam.
Police would later find and arrest a 21-year-old suspect after pulling him over.
They found a stolen handgun in his car, but have not released his name yet as he has yet to be charged. He also had no prior criminal history that they were aware of.
Police generally recommend giving up contested property to robbers to avoid escalating a dangerous situation into a deadly one.
However, Kluting said he had no regrets about how he reacted, adding, “I got my bag. He can pry it out of my cold dead hands.”
This might be attributable to the adrenaline of the situation, however, as while he told Buzzfeed News he wasn’t going to be intimidated by a “bully,” he also admitted he’d probably give the bag up if this happened again.
