A man who was adopted by Orthodox Monks in Greece is said to have never set eyes on a woman during his entire 82 years of life.
Mihailo Tolotos spent his entire life not knowing what a woman looked like, at least not from first-hand experience. While this might seem shocking and possibly unfathomable, it was the reality for him.
Tolotos was born in the 1850s
Although the exact date of his birth is unknown, the monk is said to have been born some time in 1856.
Unfortunately, his mother passed away a short while after giving birth to him, leaving him with no parents or immediate family members to claim him.
The man was adopted by monks

After his mother’s death and having been left without any family to take care of him, Tolotos was taken to a monastery on Mount Athos and adopted by a group of Grecian Orthodox Monks who were based in the building.
The monastery was a strict place
During his years of being raised in the monastery, he had to live under strict rules put forward for the building by the monks.
One of those rules was that women were forbidden to enter the premises under any condition.
The rule was not new
It is said that the rule that forbade women from entering the monastery had been put in place hundreds of years beforehand.
Although Tolotos was not forbidden to leave the building, he seems to have never set forth into the outside world.
Tolotos consequently never saw a woman
As women were not allowed into the monks’ establishment under any circumstances, and Tolotos had never left the monastery, this meant that he never got to see a woman in person.
Instead, Tolotos learnt about women’s existence and appearance through textbooks and conversations with others.
The monk died in the 30s
Having lived his whole life within the premises of the monastery, Tolotos passed away in 1938, aged 82.
And it seems that he was never curious about the outside world, what, or who lay within it until his last days.
Tolotos’ life was honored
The man’s life was honored following his death with a special burial performed by the monks who lived at the Mount Athos monastery with him.
The monks believed that Tolotos was the only man in the world who had never seen a woman in real life.
His death was also recognized in an article
Tolotos’ life was not only recognized by his fellow Orthodox Monks in Greece but also by reporters in a newspaper article which wrote on his interesting and intriguing life free of seeing any women.
The man’s case is certainly interesting enough.
The article revealed other things about him

The newspaper article written on Mihailo Tolotos also alleged that he had gone his entire 82 years of life without having ever watched a movie, seen an airplane, or ridden a car.
It is definitely a strange thing to imagine.
He led an interesting life
The monk from the monastery believed Tolotos was the only man on Earth to have never laid eyes on a woman.
Indeed, with the realities of our everyday lives today, it can also be said that there will most likely never be a man like him again.
