In these times of uncertainty and anxiety, little gestures can go a long way. For this reason, children in many countries battling the coronavirus have been putting their “social distancing time” to good use and brushing off their crafting sets to paint pictures of rainbows to hang in the window.
The rainbows hold dual purposes.

In an Instagram post by mom and writer Robyn Landa, she explains that her school district asked families to hang pictures of rainbows from their windows to show solidarity with the first responders.
They’re for the ‘community members who are taking care of us.’

These pictures are meant to “brighten up our spirits and help brighten up the spirits of our community members who are taking care of us….doctors, nurses, EMTs, paramedics, police officers, firefighters, trash collectors, and delivery drivers. What a beautiful and unifying, yet simple concept,” she wrote.
There’s another reason kids are doing this, however.

And it’s for the benefit of other kids in the community. They’re participating in a scavenger hunt of sorts.
It helps promote social distancing.

When kids go out on a walk with their parents, they can hunt around for the rainbows, creating a game that can be played at a safe distance from others. People are using the hashtag #rainbowwalk.
You can even download a Google map showing all the participating houses in your neighborhood.

Stay safe, everyone!

And always remember: There’s a rainbow at the end of the storm.
