JoJo Siwa has reacted to news of criticism about her love life from Miley Cyrus amid wider talks around her new romance with Chris Hughes.
Cyrus joked about recent news around Siwa
The Flowers singer, who identifies as pansexual, recently surprised the audience at the WorldPride festival in Washington on June 7 when she showed them a video of her in the closet.
“Pride should be a year. It should be infinite!” she said. “Alright, I’m going back in to get some more pretzels and find JoJo Siwa and bring her back out.”
Siwa reacted to the joke
Taking to Instagram on June 12, Siwa reacted to the joke about her returning to the closet, writing, “I was happy at my 5th birthday having a Miley themed party and I’m still happy now at 22.”
“I wasn’t sure how I felt about things for a couple of days, but I’ve started to come to some thoughts. I don’t believe what Miley said at World Pride was ill intended. Honestly, I think it was meant to be a joke, but just not a very good one.”
She understood it was a joke but she didn’t like it
The media personality didn’t believe Cyrus’ joke was ill intended, but still felt she shouldn’t have made it. “Not what the world, or myself needs to hear any day of the week,” Siwa wrote in her post.
“I messaged Miley light heartedly about it and she replied and said, ‘All love. Always.’”
This comes following news of Siwa’s recent relationship
This all comes among news of JoJo Siwa’s recent relationship with Chris Hughes, whom she met on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year.
Although Siwa had previously identified as lesbian, she now identifies as queer.
The relationship was surprising to many
Siwa and Hughes’ relationship was surprising to a lot of fans as Siwa was dating Kath Ebbs while appearing close with Hughes on Celebrity Big Brother.
Ebbs later said Siwa broke up with her at the CBB wrap party, with Siwa and Hughes confirming their relationship a few months later with a cozy picture of the two in bed, per People.
Siwa explained her journey with identity
In the post, Siwa also explained, “Honestly the most beautiful thing I’ve learned in the last 5 years is that love is a gorgeous rainbow.”
“Don’t question yourself, don’t second guess yourself, just love. People judge no matter what, and it can be very hard, especially when it comes from someone you love and look up to. But if you feel happy and content with yourself, that’s most important,” she wrote.
