Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden had a rough time of it during a recent debate. It had nothing to do with the discourse itself. Instead, the problem was pretty gruesome.
Biden was speaking at a town hall event.
The former vice president, who’s hoping to secure the Democratic nomination for president in 2020, appeared with nine other Democratic candidates in a climate-themed town hall event sponsored by CNN .

An unfortunate incident overshadowed the debate.
As moderator Cooper Anderson asked Biden a question about fracking bans, everything appeared normal for a few moments. But in short order, Biden took on an appearance that quickly went viral on Twitter.
Biden’s left eye appeared to fill with blood.
Biden began answering the question. But within seconds, his left eye — which had appeared normal just moments before — took on a decidedly bloody visage. Biden continued answering the question.
Twitter had a field day.
It was something noteworthy in an otherwise bland early debate. Biden’s bloody eye became one of Twitter’s top stories almost immediately. Users expressed shock, revulsion, horror and even twisted delight.
Eye of Sauron?
Some users compared Biden’s bloody eye to the Eye of Sauron. It seems kind of fitting, no? The current political climate certainly seems like we’re nearing the end of days.
Pretty much.
Like, his eye didn’t literally explode, but it did get distressingly bloody worryingly fast. It’s the kind of thing you don’t want to see, and hope never, ever happens to you.

I’ll take the word of Michael, because if you can’t trust strangers on the internet, who can you trust? Seriously though, it does sound like this is what Biden experienced during the debate.

I checked it out, and it looks like Biden definitely experienced subconjunctival bleeding. I used an image of the Eye of Sauron because honestly, you don’t want to see the images on the Wikipedia page .

I’m with OP on this one. I have compassion for anyone who’s experiencing a blown-up eye, but it’s hard to not have a grossed-out gut reaction to seeing it live on TV.
It’s election season, folks.
We’re still a year out from the Democrats choosing their nominee and hearing what the current president has to say about the frontrunners. Buckle up, folks. 2020 will be here before we know it.
