Now look, award shows are no strangers to a slip up here and there.
Who can forget when La La Land was announced as the Best Picture winner back at the 2017 Oscars, only to be quickly corrected with Moonlight ?!
Well, it seems like history is repeating itself and this time, it involves Jason Bateman!
Of course, we all know about the Emmy award show that takes place once a year on a gorgeous Sunday evening.
However, what fans might not know is that The Creative Arts Emmys air for five consecutive nights leading up to the big event!
These Creative Arts Emmys hand out the boring awards for guest acting, animation, costumes, makeup, etc!
Jason Bateman, who stars in HBO’s “The Outsider” was up against Ron Cephas Jones, James Cromwell, Giancarlo Esposito, Andrew Scott and Martin Short for the Guest Actor in a Drama Series award.
I know, right?! IDK how anyone can decide who would win out of these amazing nominees?!
Well spoiler alert, they kinda DIDN’T decide, lol.
When it came time to announce the winner, the title card flashed Ron Cephas Jones’ name while the announcer said, “Jason Bateman as Terry Maitland, The Outsider.”
TWO WINNERS?! EEP!
Thankfully, the Emmys were quick to correct their mistake with a frantic message.
After the show came back from commercial break, an apology was posted on-screen, reading: “Our apologies, an incorrect winner has been announced. We’re fixing it now. Please don’t go away.”
The desperation behind the “Please don’t go away” is truly the most relatable mood EVER!
Now, let’s celebrate Ron Cephas Jones, who made history with his win alongside his daughter Jasmine Cephas Jones!
The pair became the first father-daughter duo to take home Emmys in the same year! AWWW! YAY!
