Conor McGregor just dropped some big news—he’s running for President of Ireland. This came right after his pretty wild visit to the White House.
Conor McGregor visits the White House after Trump says he’s a fan of the MMA fighter

McGregor got the White House invite after Donald Trump gave him a shoutout last week, calling him one of his favorite Irish people.
McGregor took to Instagram to share his thoughts
He said that Ireland has to fully adopt the EU Migration Pact by June 12, 2026. He went on, explaining that between now and then, a bunch of laws need to go through both Houses of the Oireachtas and get signed by the President.
McGregor’s trip to Washington didn’t sit well with Irish leaders

Taoiseach Micheál Martin wasn’t so happy with that, saying they “did not reflect the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day or the views of the people of Ireland.”
“Conor McGregor is not here in the United States representing Ireland or the people of Ireland. He’s here in a personal capacity. He doesn’t speak for Ireland. He doesn’t speak for the people of Ireland. He has no mandate to do such, and my views on him are very clear.”
The businessman met Donald Trump and praised his ‘work ethic’

When the two finally met, McGregor had nothing but praise for Trump, calling his “work ethic” “inspiring.” The two posed for photos, shook hands, and exchanged a few light comments—right in front of a map of the Gulf of Mexico, which was labeled “Gulf of America” in the Oval Office.
The 36-year-old claimed Ireland is losing its ‘Irishness’

On Monday, right before a press conference with Donald Trump, McGregor told a crowd that Ireland was on the verge of “potentially losing its Irishness.” He didn’t hold back, calling the Irish government “an administration of zero action with zero accountability.”
He also went after how money was being spent, saying, “Our money is being spent on overseas issues that is nothing to do with the Irish people.”
He then urged people to vote for him as president

Earlier today, McGregor fired off a post on X, telling Ireland: “The choice is yours, and it’s an easy one. Vote for me as your President, and we will SAVE IRELAND TOGETHER!”
McGregor claims he is the only logical choice for president

The MMA fighter brought up the next presidential election, which has to happen by November 11, 2025. “Who else will stand up to Government and oppose this bill?” he asked.
McGregor has never held a political role before, but that hasn’t stopped him from calling himself the “only logical choice” for Ireland’s next president.
He also said that if he became president, he’d push for a referendum
Even though he’s strongly against the pact, he insisted it’s not up to him or the government. “It is the people of Ireland’s choice! Always! That is a true democracy!”
The 36-year-old argued he is young and unbiased compared to other candidates

McGregor kept making his case, pitching himself as the fresh alternative. “Or me, 35. Young, active, passionate, fresh skin in the game. I listen. I support. I adapt,” he wrote. He also made a point of saying he had no ties to any political party and would actually hold them accountable. “I’d even put it all to vote.”
The MMA fighter is actually a convicted felon

Last November, McGregor lost a civil case in Dublin for raping a woman. His victim, Nikita Hand, had taken McGregor to court, claiming he assaulted her in a Dublin hotel back in December 2018. After a three-week trial, the jury ruled against him, finding him civilly liable for assault.
A judge later stated that the jury had “conclusively determined” McGregor had raped Ms. Hand. She was awarded damages and legal costs. He is currently appealing the civil case ruling.
Now, he’s sharing the news of thinking of becoming president on Instagram

In the post, he’s standing in front of a private jet, rocking a “Make Ireland Great Again” cap.
