Ozzy Osbourne passed away at 76. His family shared that he was surrounded by love when it happened.
Since 2019, Ozzy had been living with Parkinson’s, a condition that slowly messes with the brain and affects different parts of the body over time.
He was also dealing with a few other health issues, but the family hasn’t said exactly what caused his death.
Sharon Osbourne made sure Ozzy’s final wish came true
Before Ozzy passed, there was one thing he really wanted to do. Go back home to the UK. His wife, Sharon, made it happen.
She pulled together this big concert called Back to the Beginning. It brought Ozzy back on stage with Black Sabbath, and the whole thing raised a massive $189 million for charity.
The concert brought together rock legends for a special cause
They didn’t do it small either. Some serious rock legends showed up.
Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, and Anthrax were all part of it. Big deal for fans. Big deal for Ozzy.
The location had deep personal meaning to Ozzy
Sharon explained why they picked that spot in the UK for the show.
“The only place that we could do it would have been Aston, because that’s where Ozzy was born and grew up, which is right where the Villa ground is,” she told Music Business Worldwide.
Sharon wanted the show to celebrate Ozzy’s musical legacy
Sharon didn’t want it to just be a regular concert either.
“I thought of having all the bands he’s ever had relationships with perform and maybe do Sabbath songs and Ozzy songs. It became a celebration of the music.
“All the generations are going to be there that Sabbath and Ozzy have passed the torch down to.”
So yeah, it wasn’t just a show. It was a tribute, really.
The emotional weight of returning home moved Ozzy deeply
Going back to where it all began hit Ozzy pretty hard.
Sharon told The Sun he was “very happy to be coming back and very emotional about this.”
It wasn’t just a trip down memory lane. It really meant something to him.
Despite health struggles, Ozzy’s voice remained strong
Even though Parkinson’s was taking a toll on him, Ozzy still had that voice.
“Parkinson’s is a progressive disease. It’s not something you can stabilize. It affects different parts of the body, and it’s affected his legs,” she said.
“But his voice is as good as it’s ever been.”
That was something. No matter what was happening physically, his voice stayed solid.
Ozzy expressed heartfelt thanks to his fans
After the concert, Ozzy didn’t say much. But what he did say was pure Ozzy.
“You have no idea how I feel – thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Family released a heartfelt statement after his passing
After he passed, the family shared this message:
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.
“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Ozzy leaves behind Sharon, their kids Aimee, Kelly, and Jack. He also had Jessica and Louis from his first marriage to Thelma Riley, and a bunch of grandkids too.
Tributes poured in from his hometown and beyond
Aston Villa, his hometown football club, put out a really sweet message.
“Aston Villa Football Club is saddened to learn that world-renowned rockstar and Villan, Ozzy Osbourne has passed away.
“Growing up in Aston, not far from Villa Park, Ozzy always held a special connection to the club and the community he came from.
“The thoughts of everyone at Aston Villa are with his wife Sharon, his family, friends, and countless fans at this extremely difficult time.”
It just shows how much he meant to the place he came from. And to people everywhere.
