47th President Donald Trump, 78, was sworn into office on Monday, January 20. During his inauguration ceremony, he made a speech about how he was going to make America great again, including that he would rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
This moment went viral, not because of his promise but because of Hillary Clinton, 77, laughing at what he said.
He promised America a “golden age”
During his inauguration speech in the hall of the Capitol Rotunda, he said that he would fix America’s “decline” as he gives birth to “the golden age of America.”
He is set on committing to the promises he made during his first presidency, including sending troops over to the US-Mexico border, increasing domestic oil production, and imposing tariffs to “enrich our citizens.”
He wants to create a “proud, prosperous and free” nation
“Our sovereignty will be reclaimed. Our safety will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced,” Trump said. He also made a mouth-dropping promise that he’d rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which left people in disbelief, including Clinton.
This got an unexpected reaction from Clinton
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), footage of Clinton can be seen where she burst into laughter at the Mexico Gulf promise. She was not the only one to be seen laughing at this remark, several other people behind her were laughing as well.
Social media users react

One person wrote: “Hillary Clinton just had the best reaction to Trump’s statement changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.”
“Hillary Clinton laughing hysterically when Trump said he’s renaming the Gulf of Mexico… she is all of us. What a joke,” another person added.
People agree with Clinton

Other people felt Clinton’s reaction on a spiritual level, saying: “We are all Hillary Clinton right now. Donald Trump lives in a universe of his own, thinking he could change the name of the Gulf of Mexico with one stroke of a pen.”
Some people even labeled Clinton laughing as their “favorite moment of the day.”
Trump showed past leadership no mercy
Trump deemed the past leadership corrupt, saying: “We now have a government that cannot manage even a simple crisis at home, while at the same time stumbling into a continuing catalogue of catastrophic events abroad.”
He presented himself as the hero with the cape, saying: “All of this will change starting today, and it will change very quickly.”
Things Trump did as the 47th president
TikTok was set to be banned in the US and indeed, it was on January 19. However, Trump brought it back after a few hours from its ban. He decided to delay its ban to “make a deal to protect our national security.”
TikTok came back with a message that said: “Welcome back! Thank you for your patience and support. As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the US!”
He will pardon those arrested on January 6, 2021
Trump told TIME that he will look into the Capitol rioters’ cases in “the first nine minutes” of his time in office. He will try his best to pardon as many of them as he can but he admitted that “a couple of them, probably they got out of control,” so he can’t pardon all of them.
Other things he promised
Trump plans to “launch the largest deportation program in American history to get the criminals out.” In addition, AP News reported that Trump plans to prepare over 100 executive orders. His allies have prepared the necessary documents so Trump can sign them quickly.
These orders include deportation, school gender policies, and vaccine mandates, without having input from Congress.
Was Clinton’s reaction supportive or sarcastic?
Clinton lost to Trump in the 2016 Presidential Elections, and he became the 45th president instead of Clinton. She got to see him again, becoming the 47th president of the United States.
While some of the crowd was laughing as well like Clinton, others were cheering in support of Trump. So, the intentions behind her reaction are up for debate.
