Evanna Lynch, the actress who played Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter, has been pretty honest lately about her life after the wizarding world. You’d think that being in four of those iconic films would guarantee a smooth ride in Hollywood, right?
Well, turns out, she was wrong about that. She recently opened up about her career, how she thought it would go, and the surprises (and struggles) she faced after the Harry Potter films ended.
She thought she was set for life

When Evanna first got the Luna gig, she thought it was a one-way ticket to success. “I think I over blew it, I think I thought, ‘Great this is me set for life, this is my career,’” she admitted.
Seems like she had really big hopes when she landed the role.
The reality of a competitive industry
But it didn’t take long for her to realize that acting is way harder than she thought. “I didn’t think it would be as hard to be an actor as it actually is,” she said.
Yeah, it’s a lot more complicated than just being in a big movie.
Fans didn’t understand her career choices
People who loved her role as Luna kept asking her why she wasn’t in more huge films.
“Sometimes I’ll meet them at conventions and at plays, and they’ll be like, ‘Why are not you doing blockbuster movies?’” she laughed.
She gets it — they want to see more of her, but it’s not always that simple.
Her connection to Harry Potter was life-changing
Before Evanna became Luna, she was just another Harry Potter superfan. And the books actually helped her through a tough time in her life.
“I wrote to the author to thank her for ‘making her want to live again,’” she said. You can see how deep her connection to the series really went.
Going from fan to famous was surreal
Going from a fan who was obsessed with the books to suddenly being in the movies was a total trip for Evanna. “I wasn’t prepared for fame,” she said.
Imagine that — going from knowing everything about Daniel Radcliffe to being the one getting fan mail!
She believes obsessive fandom is unhealthy

Looking back, Evanna now feels like being too obsessed with fictional worlds isn’t all that great.
“I did everything — I queued up for the books, I wrote fan mail to Daniel Radcliffe and got his autograph,” she said, laughing a little.
She’s sort of cringing now, but hey, we’ve all been there with something!
She manifested her dream role

Evanna believes that landing the Luna role wasn’t just luck — it was something she “manifested.”
“I completely manifested it. All my energy was focused on this,” she said. She even wrote letters to J.K. Rowling and ended up becoming friends with her. Crazy how that worked out, huh?
Forming real friendships was challenging
Once she joined the cast, it wasn’t easy for Evanna to form real friendships with her co-stars. “When I met Daniel, Rupert, and Emma, I knew everything about them… I had to pretend I didn’t,” she said.
Yeah, that must’ve been super awkward knowing everything about them already, right?
She struggled with her own identity
Evanna admits that the whole experience left her a bit lost when it came to figuring out who she was. “I realized I didn’t even know myself, I didn’t know what to say,” she said.
That’s real — being thrown into the spotlight like that can mess with your sense of identity.
Idolizing celebrities can be disempowering

Evanna has some solid advice about not putting celebrities on a pedestal. “Being an obsessive fan is disempowering,” she said.
She doesn’t think it’s healthy for fans to idolize celebrities like they’re untouchable.
Good reminder to keep things in perspective, right?
