I’m always looking for ways to save on everyday things because I am cheap AF! I have no shame, it’s absolutely true. I’m a coupon clipping, loyalty card holding, clothing recycling cheapskate and I’m totally okay with it. Want in on all of my money-saving ways? Check out the list below!
1. Get A Rewards Credit Card
Anyone who has a credit card and doesn’t get some type of reward from it needs to reevaluate their life choices. Free money, free trips, free electronics? Sign me up!
2. Sign Up For Rewards Programs
If you’re already purchasing at certain stores anyway, why not sign up for their rewards program? You’ll get rewarded in discounts and free stuff all year round.
3. Save Money On Printer Ink
Did you know that Garamond typeface uses less ink than some of its relatives like Times New Roman, Century Gothic or Comic Sans (ew, don’t use this font, ever)?
4. Save All Of Your Spare Change
My boyfriend never keeps change on him. Men’s wallets don’t seem to come with a change holder, so he just puts it in a jar at the end of the day. He’s saved a pretty penny this way.
5. Use A Clothesline To Dry Clothes
The amount of energy your dryer uses a year is actually pretty mindblowing, and can lead to some expensive bills. Not only is drying your laundry outside cost-effective, it’s better for the environment, too!
6. Buy Cleaning Products At The Dollar Store
A lot of brand name products are available at the dollar store and are pretty safe to use! You might as well save a few bucks here and there, right?
7. Take Advantage Of Student And Senior Discounts
My little brother is still a student, so I’m always asking him to buy things for me with his student card. Students even save on Apple products, and that can certainly add up!
8. Use Dryer Sheets In Your Car To Freshen The Air
Are you sick of air fresheners and constantly having to replace them? Dryer sheets work wonderfully to switch things up and save you some cash!
9. Price Match At Any Store You Can
So many stores will price match with their competitors if you bring in the flyer or show proof. Many stores will even price match everyone’s favorite bulk store, Costco !
10. Reuse Old Envelopes
This is something my grandmother used to do with all of her envelopes and gift wrap. Not that either of those things are particularly expensive, but I guess it adds up!
11. Use Old Jars To Store Kitchen Items
Sure, there are tons of gorgeous jars and canisters at Antropologie, but man are they ever expensive! You can just make your own instead.
12. Reuse Zipper Bags When You’re Done With Them
There’s no reason to throw out a perfectly good freezer bag once you’ve used it! Unless it had raw meat inside, clean it and reuse it!
13. Buy Fruits And Vegetables Locally And In Season
A lot of the time vegetables are much cheaper if you head to a local farmer’s market! Plus, it feels good to support your community’s farmers!
14. Grow Your Own Vegetables And Herbs
Whether you’ve got a sprawling backyard or you have some window space, growing herbs and vegetables at home can definitely save you tons of money!
15. Freeze Extra Food Where You Can
Did you know you can freeze avocados and even eggs? Don’t let your food spoil and become a waste of money when you can freeze tons of items and they’ll still be good weeks later!
16. Sign Up For Free Trials
Websites like Amazon often have one month free trials to test out the product or service before you commit. This can often mean free stuff for you! Just don’t forget to cancel if you’re not into it.
17. Make Your Own Beauty Products
Natural beauty products are actually super easy to make and really cheap! You can make things like dry shampoo with ingredients you probably have at home. I use an all-natural one and I LOVE it!
18. Don’t Drop All Your Cash On Expensive Beauty Products
There are some pretty amazing beauty products that ring in under $15 that you’re sure to love just as much as their expensive counterparts.
19. Don’t Pay Full Price On Fast Food
I refuse to pay full price for a Big Mac ! Just order a McDouble, skip the ketchup and mustard, and ask for lettuce and special sauces. It’s basically a Big Mac without the bun in between the patties, and you’ll save about $2!
20. You can save at Chipotle, too!
Ask for half and half when it comes to ordering the meat in your burrito. Employees will generally give you closer to 3/4 of a scoop of each, instead of 1/2. This means more meat for you!
21. Make Your Own Lattes
Just think about how fast your daily latte adds up and starts to impact your bank account! It’s pretty silly when you can make some pretty amazing ones right at home.
22. Make Your Own Yogurt & Ice Cream
If you aren’t getting it on sale, ice cream can get freaking expensive! There are so many easy ways to make your own ice cream or yogurt, so it seems silly to buy it all the time!
23. Save A Little Money At The Salon
Scope out all the coupons! Seriously, you would be surprised at the amount of money you can save by looking for coupons online for reputable salons!
