Well folks, today is National Donut Day. Yes, there is a National Day for just about anything these days! Seriously. Google “National Day Calender.” You can’t make this stuff up.
Not only is today National Donut Day, but it’s also Pride month! Since we could use some serious reasons to celebrate these days, these rainbow donuts are perfect for the occasion, and they’re decorated with Fruity Pebbles, too!
How fun are these rainbow donuts?
Instead of fully covering them in all the colors of the rainbow, Beth over at The First Year Blog made them look like a half moon rainbow shining in the sky.
Instead of using icing or sprinkles to make the rainbow, Beth’s recipe uses separated Fruity Pebbles.
So yes, you may have to spend all day and night sorting each color of Fruity Pebbles into their own bowls, but it will be totally worth it with the added airy crunch and fruity flavor from the cereal.
To decorate, all you have to do is dip each donut in a vanilla Candiquik and vegetable shortening mixture, wait for them to cool, and start arranging pieces of Fruity Pebbles cereal in a rainbow around half the donut.
Beth also sprinkles some shredded coconut under each rainbow to give the look of clouds.
If you didn’t want to make your own donuts using her recipe, you could totally use pre-made boxed donuts from the store (or Krispy Kreme) and just decorate them the vanilla Candiquik, shredded coconut, and Fruity Pebbles.
If you’re not a super huge fan of Fruity Pebbles and don’t feel like separating the colors is a fun de-stressing activity, feel free to use sprinkles.
No matter what, this is a really fun activity for the whole family to enjoy, and people will be happy to get a taste of the rainbow.
