A new photo showing Gabby Petito in the weeks preceding her death gives insight into her domestic abuse. The surveillance video is evidence in the lawsuit against the Moab City Police Department for negligence.
Petito’s Bruised Face Resurfaces

The photo showed Petito in a van on August 12, a few hours after the police stopped her and Laundrie in response to a domestic disturbance call in Moab City, Utah. She had visible bruises on her face, including a left cheek cut, bloodied eyelids, and a red nose bridge.
Petito Took The Blame
The pictures came from a body camera of one of the responding officers of the Moab City Police Department. More video analysis showed the ensuing conversation between the officers and the couple as Petito took the blame for the fallout between her and Laundrie.
The Officers Let Them Go
She told the officers it was her fault for striking him first. In “retaliation,” Laundrie grabbed her face violently and shook her, an action he did often when frustrated with her attitude. Unfortunately, without a complaint from the victim, the police had to let Laundrie go—a big mistake.
The Police Found Petito’s Dead Body

Almost a month after that “stop and search,” Petito’s family reported her missing, and when the authorities searched, they found her lifeless body in a Wyoming national park. The coroner’s office ruled the cause of death as manual strangulation, with Laundrie being the prime suspect.
Laundrie Killed Himself

The authorities searched for him for a month before finding his dead body in a Florida nature reserve. Laundrie committed suicide after killing his fiancée, based on a note found with his lifeless body in October 2022.
Behind Closed Doors
Petito’s case is another one of “not all that glitters is gold” as she portrayed a romantic adventure in her Instagram updates of the road trip. No one outside her immediate family (and even they had limited knowledge) knew of the abuse Petito suffered behind closed doors.
The Family Sues The Moab City P.D.
Petito’s family want the Moab City PD to answer for their daughter’s death, as they claim negligence. According to their lawyers, the police didn’t take the domestic violence reports seriously, and they got careless with the stop and search.
Family Alleges Negligence
The family’s lawyer further explained that Petito’s demonstration of Laundrie’s violent actions should’ve been enough to arrest him and rescue her. Unfortunately,
No Comment From The Police
Although media publications reached out to the Moab City PD for comments, they declined response due to it being an active litigation.
