People are calling this father a hero after he jumped overbroad into the ocean to save his daughter who fell from the fourth deck of a Disney cruise ship on Sunday, June 29.
The incident happened in Florida
The father and daughter were onboard the Disney Dream cruise which was returning to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Sunday, June 29.
They were returning from a four-night cruise in the Bahamas and made a stop at Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point where the incident happened, as reported by Newsweek and USA Today.
They were rescued after the father jumped

Crew members on board the cruise rescued both the father and the daughter after he had jumped to save her.
In a statement to People, Disney Cruise Line said, “The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water.”
A Facebook group for passengers of the cruise spoke about it

Disney Cruise Line added, “We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes.”
Passengers on an unofficial Disney Dream Cruise Ship Facebook group shared that the girl fell overboard from the fourth deck and the man identified as her father then jumped after her.
A passenger relayed what happened

Passenger Kevin Furuta wrote, “A girl fell overboard from the 4th deck & her dad went in after her.”
“Right after the incident, we heard on the loudspeaker, ‘MOB [Man overboard] Port side!! Thankfully, the [Disney] rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved!”
The rescue by the crew was filmed
Video footage of the crew rescuing the father and daughter was posted on Facebook by passenger Janice Martin-Asuque.
In the video, a lifeboat with people sitting inside can be seen floating on the choppy Florida waters.
No injuries were reported
There were no reports of injuries following the incident.
Disney Cruise Line added in their statement, “We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols.”
