An Arizona grandmother had quite possibly the sweetest send off ever after she was laid to rest in a custom M&Ms-themed casket – one which she actually helped design.
A TikTok slideshow capturing Mary Stocks Martin’s funeral has gone viral on the platform, showcasing the family members donning colorful tees and hats while striking poses next to the brightly colored casket. Scott Roundtree, the deceased’s grandson, shared a carousel of photos from the funeral, set to the song “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth, and captioned it with, “Grandma, my ❤️ you can now rest peacefully. I love you. You were right we all loved your casket”
The iconic blue M&M, eyes closed, and arms crossed over its chest, sits atop the casket, and beneath its hands are multiple smaller M&Ms, each bearing the name of a cherished family member, including Mary’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Scott shared that the casket was loved by the entire family, confirming to a commenter that the casket also contained M&Ms.
Family Member Lisa Richardson (@LRICH47) Took to Twitter to Reveal an Exciting Detail About the Unconventional Casket

Lisa expressed their gratitude to the person who shared the link to Esquire Middle East’s article on the casket:
“Thank you for sharing. Her name was Mary Ester Stocks Martin Gaily and my husband Tom is the one who built her casket. We will miss her. She was fun right to the end and this is the casket she designed with her son.”
Handmade With Love by a Family Member, the Casket Was Reportedly Designed by Mary Six Months Before She Passed Away

“My uncle made it by hand,” Scott told a TikTok user in a comment asking about the casket. “And [Mary] designed it years ago. She loved how it turned out. It sat in her house for years.”
Family member Bill Martin took to Twitter why exactly Mary loved M&Ms enough to be quite literally buried in one:
“Her name through 30 years as a teacher was Mary Martin. Her students would bring her M&M candies and small M&M toys which resulted in a large M&M collection. The casket is a tribute to the over 5000 students she taught throughout her career. She will be missed.”

Despite Any Reservations, Family Members Ended on a Happy Note

No matter your stance on unconventional funerals like this one, the purpose of funerals is to celebrate the deceased and comfort their loved ones. At this funeral, those who wore yellow, blue, red, and green seemed pleased to see their loved one for the last time in a colorful casket.
And since the grandmother designed the casket herself and loved it before she passed away, it’s safe to assume she’d be happy to have her wish fulfilled and be laid to rest in it.
