Harry Potter alum Evanna Lynch and Victorious star Daniella Monet are teaming up to prove their beauty isn’t only skin deep. With a shared passion for acting and animal activism, this duo was inspired to start their cruelty-free, vegan beauty subscription service the Kinder Beauty Box as well as their podcast presented by Kinder Beauty — A Little Kinder.
Diply had the opportunity to sit down with the pair to discuss the significance of kindness in both their personal and professional lives.
Clean, cruelty-free beauty products aren’t as easy to come by as you may think.
Behind the glitz and glamor of the beauty industry lies an incredibly dark secret. Animal testing is still practiced by many popular brands across the globe and if you aren’t paying attention, you could be inadvertently supporting the inhumane practice.
Enter Evanna Lynch and Daniella Monet — two actresses who are making clean, cruelty-free beauty products accessible to the masses with their vegan subscription service, Kinder Beauty Box.
Brought together by their mutual friend Andrew Bernstein, Daniella explained that while she and Evanna both work in the entertainment industry, their real passion is with animal activism and making ethical products more widely available and affordable.
“Kinder Beauty really was the perfect product to help clear up all the confusion and offer something at a price that most people can afford,” Daniella explained.
“We help elevate brands that we really want to give a bigger platform to. Small companies, large companies — all of them being very ethically driven.”
Kinder Beauty also prioritizes giving back, with a portion of their proceeds going towards various animal rights organizations like Compassion Over Killing and Farm Sanctuary.
“Being able to give back in the process is a real bonus,” Daniella added.
Evanna echoed these sentiments before explaining her own passion for the project.
“We want veganism to be mainstream. We don’t want it to be a niche little subset of the beauty industry… and I think most people want that too. Obviously, veganism as a diet is more complicated. People have very emotional attachments to food and it can be quite difficult to make that transition.”
However, Evanna recognizes that most people are open to the idea of supporting ethical beauty and don’t mean to support brands that practice animal testing.
“It’s a very archaic practice and it’s just not necessary anymore.”
As for the Kinder Beauty Box, Evanna felts it’s “a no-brainer” as it’s something “everyone can get behind.”
“Unless you kind of set an intention and choose cruelty-free and things like Kinder Beauty, you probably are using products tested on animals, and it’s an ugly truth but it’s a truth we have to face,” the Harry Potter alum explained.
“I think it often gets brushed under the carpet because the literal packaging is so beautiful and so seductive but there’s a real ugliness behind it that we all need to think more about.”
It’s no secret that many clean beauty products are incredibly expensive, which is why the Kinder Beauty Box is so unique — subscribers are getting exclusive discounts on incredible products that would otherwise cost double or triple the price!
Daniella explains that the discounts they can offer come from leveraging their communities and followings to support these companies while benefiting the consumer as well. For around $23 a month , subscribers will receive a minimum of $85 worth of luxury, high-end, cruelty-free beauty and skincare products delivered right to their door in a box made out of 100% recycled materials that is both biodegradable and compostable.
Another great benefit of the box is it allows people to make better decisions and support businesses that are moving in a more ethical direction.
This ethical direction is something Evanna feels very passionately about, and shares how she’s used that passion to change her activism over time.
“I remember feeling really angry at everyone, everyone who wasn’t vegan,” she recalled. “I was that way for a long time, that classic judgemental vegan… And then after a while just talking to people about their resistance to it, I actually realized it’s such a privilege to care — to have space in your heart and life to take on others’ suffering.”
“I think there are so many people who are just struggling for themselves to get through the day or get their children through the day.”
“I see that now and that has changed my activism and changed my perspective on the world. Everyone has something they’re struggling with and kindness just goes a very long way in reaching them and having a genuine connection.”
Being kind to yourself and to others is something both women feel passionately about.
“A lot of people have prejudices again beauty as being this very frivolous, silly thing. That is just superficial beauty,” Evanna continued.
“Beauty is so important in my life. It could just be a big tree, or it could be a really sweet act between strangers. I’m passionate about saying ‘let’s stop being ashamed for wanting pure, sensory pleasure.’ And that’s what beauty gives, and giving that to ourselves too. We all have something beautiful about us.”
As for what 2022 has in store, Daniella assured fans it will be an exciting year for the brand.
“Seeing our company grow in the last three years has kind of been shocking in a way. I don’t know that we knew what Kinder Beauty was really going to be. We knew that we loved the idea and we wanted to bring more self-care and more clean, vegan, cruelty-free beauty products to everyone but we didn’t realize that there was actually a market out there that cared the way that we care,” the Victorious star shared.
“That’s been the most exciting part and I think that 2022 is going to bring a lot more of us growing our community and seeing what more we can do with it.”
As for the “A Little Kinder” podcast, the pair promise to “get geeky” about beauty in the upcoming second season.
The plan for season 2 is to go more in-depth with creators and founders of the brands they love to share in the Kinder Beauty Box.
While fighting for animal rights can seem like an overwhelming task, it’s people like Daniella and Evanna, and the team at Kinder Beauty, who are making it easier for the average person to make more educated and ethical decisions on what they choose to use every single day, and we think that’s pretty amazing.
