Just over a year ago, Game of Thrones , (sadly) came to an end. But evidently, there is still some GoT alumni gossip to be had!
In a recent interview with Vogue , Nathalie Emmanuel opened up about what it was like to work on a male-dominated set, and how her castmate, Emilia Clarke, actually had to stick up for her at one point!

If you’re a *Game of Thrones* fan, then there’s a fairly good chance that you are familiar with both Nathalie Emmanuel and Emilia Clarke.
The two actors played the roles of Daenerys Targaryen and Missandei, for eight wonderful seasons.
And as such, the pair became good friends — especially considering they were of few women on the *GoT* set.
Ladies, we gotta stick together, amirite?
In a recent interview, Nathalie explained what it was like working on a male-dominated series, and how at one point, Emilia had to defend her.
This wasn’t the first time that someone apart of the *GoT* cast has had to stick up for someone though!
While Emilia, in this case, was the one to stand up for her co-star, somebody else once stuck up for her as well: Jason Momoa.
As you may already know, Emilia had quite a few nude scenes over the course of the entire series.
And even though you may have enjoyed them, she, on the other hand, did not necessarily love filming them.
“Season 1 was what it was — it was a [expletive] ton of nudity,” she said in an interview on Dax Shepard’s podcast, *Armchair Expert*, last autumn.
“I took the job and then they sent me the scripts and I was reading them, and I was, like, ‘Oh, there’s the catch!,'” she added . “But I’d come fresh from drama school, and I approached [it] as a job. If it’s in the script then it’s clearly needed, this is what this is and I’m gonna make sense of it… Everything’s gonna be cool.”
“So I came to terms with that beforehand. But then going in and doing it… I’m floating through this first season and I have no idea what I’m doing, I have no idea what any of this is.”
“I’ve never been on a film set like this before, I’d been on a film set twice before then,” she recalled .
“And I’m now on a film set completely naked with all of these people, and I don’t know what I’m meant to do”.
She revealed that she often had to protest with the directors about how much skin she would show in certain scenes.
“I’ve had fights on set before where I’m like, ‘No, the sheet stays up,’ and they’re like, ‘No, you don’t wanna disappoint your Game of Thrones fans.’ And I’m like, ‘[Expletive] you.'”
“I’m gonna cry in the bathroom and then I’m gonna come back and we’re gonna do the scene and it’s gonna be completely fine .”
She then revealed that her co-star at the time, Jason Momoa, stepped in when he felt Emilia was being treated unfairly.
“It was definitely hard, which is why the scenes, when I got to do them with Jason were wonderful,” she said .
“Because he was like, ‘No, sweetie, this is not okay’ and I was like, ‘Oh.'”
“He took care of me, he really did. In an environment where I didn’t know I needed to be taken care of,” she continued. “He was like, ‘Sweetie, this is how it’s meant to be and this is how it’s not meant to be, and I’m going to make sure that’s the way it goes.'”
“He was so kind and considerate, and cared about me as a human being.”
Anyways, it turns out that Emilia went on to return the favor, so to speak, when she stood up for another one of her castmates, Nathalie Emmanuel.
In a recent interview with Vogue , Nathalie praised Emilia for having her back on a male-dominated set.
“If you’re the only girls on a male-dominated set, it bonds you in a certain way,” she said.
She explained that during her first season on the show, she had to wear a rather risqué costume, and one of her male colleagues made a pass at her because of it.
“For example, in my first season, my costume was pretty revealing,” she explained.
“And there was an incident with a supporting actor who made a comment about it on set — I mean, typical”.
While it might be typical, it’s not okay.
While Nathalie didn’t call anybody out by name, she did make sure to tip her hat at Emilia, who immediately protected her in that situation.
“And Emilia straightaway had my back. It got handled .”
Quite frankly, women need other women to back them up in these instances.
She added that from then on, she and Emilia always looked out for each other amongst their prodominantly male colleagues.
“She and I always looked out for each other,” she said .
Hopefully whoever made the comment has learned from their past mistakes!
