President Donald Trump is tightening the rules of immigration to the US. Having already deported a large number of people, he is now proposing harsher travel restrictions and bans for people from 43 countries, some of whom are getting a 60-day threshold to address his concerns.
This comes from the peace deal made with Russia
The proposal comes after Donald Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social that he had a ‘good’ talk with Russian President, Vladimir Putin where the two spoke about a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump has placed some of Russia’s key allies under sanctions, with some countries getting a 60-day period to address international concerns or they would be sanctioned as well.
The countries come in three groups
The sanctioned countries are separated into three groups: countries that are fully banned from traveling to the US, countries with sharply restricted visas, and countries that are given 60 days to address concerns or they would be placed with the banned or restricted countries.
These are the lists of countries

Countries that would be fully travel banned: Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
Countries that would receive sharply restricted visas: Belarus, Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Turkmenistan.
Countries that would have 60 days to address concerns: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.
What this means for each group
People from countries on the full travel ban list would be unable to apply for tourist visas, student visas, or any other visa statuses.
Countries in the partially restricted groups would face similar bans if their governments don’t address concerns within 60 days.
What these countries have in common
A lot of the countries on this list are in the Middle East and Africa. Some countries on the list, like Belarus or North Korea, are also allied with Russia.
A lot of these countries are also Muslim-majority countries and many of them are considered poor ones.
The list is not set in stone
According to the New York Times, the list of countries isn’t set in stone yet as it still has to be approved by the administration.
The outlet also reported that this list was first developed by the State Department and is still in review by embassies and regional bureaus.
Trump issued a warning
When speaking with the Justice Department, Trump warned, “I think we have it, I think we have it, but this could lead to World War III, very easily, could very easily lead to World War III. But I think we’re in pretty good shape, a lot better than where we were before we got involved.”
“That was heading into World War III territory, that would’ve been a war like no other because of nuclear weapons, and other types of weapons that you don’t even wanna know about.”
“I think we’re doing well with Russia, we’re speaking with President Putin, we want to get the war over,” Trump said.
