US President Donald Trump has responded to news of Joe Biden receiving a cancer diagnosis after his team announced it on Sunday, May 18.
The two have a known rivalry
It’s known that the current president of the United States, Donald Trump, and his predecessor, Joe Biden, have a fierce rivalry.
The two have had a number of adverse moments over the course of their presidential campaigns last year, with Trump even creating a nickname for Biden, calling him ‘Sleepy Joe’.
Trump has responded to Biden’s diagnosis
While the two often oppose each other, Republican president Trump has set aside his differences with Democratic Joe Biden in the wake of the latter’s diagnosis with an ‘aggressive’ form of prostate cancer.
Trump wrote a statement on social media
Taking to social media, Trump wrote a message of support to his predecessor, saying, “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis.”
“We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
Biden’s diagnosis was announced on Sunday
This comes after Biden’s team announced his cancer diagnosis on Sunday, May 18, sharing a statement about the 82-year-old’s health.
The statement read, “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms.”
They shared the sequence of events
“On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement went on.
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
Trump’s son also wrote a message
Over on Instagram, Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., also shared a statement of support to the ex-president, writing, “Politics aside, we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Biden’s cancer appears to be aggressive
A ‘Gleason score’, which is mentioned in the statement by Biden’s team, is often given with a prostate cancer diagnosis to indicate its severity.
With Biden’s score being nine, it means his case is more aggressive than most.
