Disney actress who appeared in Queen of Katwe , Nikita Pearl Waligwa, has died at 15-years-old multiple sources report.

“Queen of Katwe” starred Lupita Nyong’o. Waligwa portrayed Gloria, a friend of Phiona who explained the rules of chess.

The film was about a rising chess prodigy and based on the true story of Phiona Mutesi. She began playing chess at age nine and went on to compete in international tournaments.

Ugandan media have reported that Waligwa was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2016.

At the time, she sought treatment in India. She made a recovery in 2017, but the tumor reportedly returned last year.

Condolences for the young actress have been pouring in on social media.
