Chrissy Metz is an incredibly successful actress, known for her role as Kate Pearson in the hit NBC drama, This is Us. You know, the show that left you in tears after every episode? Yeah, that show.
Not only did This is Us highlight Metz’s incredible acting abilities, but it also showcased her beautiful singing voice. She is a light to so many and has been vulnerable with audiences since the start of her career.
Recently, Chrissy Metz sat down for a podcast episode with Jamie Kern Lima from the Jamie Kern Lima Show.

The host, best known for co-founding the hugely successful IT Cosmetics, hosts a popular podcast all about the importance of self-confidence and personal growth.
Metz participated in a vulnerable conversation with the entrepreneur, recalling some of the most difficult moments from her past.

The 44-year-old actress recalled how her stepfather “would weigh me in the kitchen or threaten to lock the cupboards, and I’m like, ‘I don’t think you get it,'” she said, as per People.
“I think there’s so much more awareness now around food, food issues, food behavior … we educate people, the fear goes away. And maybe he was just fearful. I don’t really know,” she continued.
“But yeah, I mean, [it was] definitely mental, physical, emotional abuse for sure.”
Of course, growing up with this type of abuse would leave lasting impressions on anyone, especially someone who has a career in the public eye.
“The emotional stuff … they’re like little nicks, little cuts, and eventually you bleed out. It is painful,” she explained.
“Why does my weight equate my worthiness?”
She continued: “And as a 12-year-old kid, it’s like, how do you reconcile that in your mind?”
I think it’s safe to say that anyone who has experienced anything similar has also wondered the same things.
The actress then recalled the difficult experiences of growing up while struggling with body image issues.
“You look like none of your other friends and you can’t fit into any of the cute Wet Seal clothes that they can fit into. You’re like, ‘Oh, let me borrow your necklace.'”
These days, however, Chrissy is working hard to deconstruct the abuse from her childhood and reframe what it means to be worthy.
“I think I’m trying to heal those wounds slowly but surely. And it’s not easy … The root of it is, ‘I’m unworthy.'”
“There’s so much stigma about weight, and there still is for a myriad of reasons, but I think there’s this idea that like, ‘Oh, you can’t put the food down’ or ‘You’re lazy.'”

The 44-year-old then pointed out the double standard that exists in society today: “Beautiful models are on a pedestal, even though they’re very unhealthy as well. They’re not taking care of their bodies.”
“But when you’re overweight, it’s like a whole other thing. It’s so bizarre,” she admitted.
Sadly, I think so many people can relate to these sentiments, but I’m so glad to see she’s working on loving herself because she deserves it!
