Charlie Hunnam is best known for his work on Sons of Anarchy as the devastatingly handsome and annoyingly cool Jax Teller. Now, Hunnam is returning to the small screen for a role in a new Apple TV+ series called Shantaram which he filmed in India.
Recently, Hunnam spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about his experience, and as it turns out, it wasn’t quite a walk in the park. He ended up having a pretty serious health scare.

Charlie Hunnam had a recent health scare when he was in India, filming his new show ‘Shantaram’.
While he was there, he got a bacterial gut infection, a viral gut infection, an acute respiratory infection, conjunctivitis in both eyes, a fever, and an ear infection.
Oh, and all this stemmed just from getting a mosquito bite. Talk about getting all the bad luck in the world!
To make matters worse for him, while he was undergoing that serious health scare, he was also trying to recover from a physical injury.
While filming Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, Hunnam got pretty seriously injured, and was so trying to deal with that at the same time.
“I just finished doing the Zack Snyder film and got injured again.” Hunnam said.
“I have a totally exploded S1 and S2 that are torn wide open, a hundred percent dehydrated,”
“It’s going to take two years to heal and I have a 40 percent tear on the ligament on the right side that holds my spinal column in place.”
“The show must go on.”
Despite the show going on though, Hunnam did say that he’s at an age where he is thinking more seriously about his body and problems that can arise. No matter how much people work out, as you get older, your body and your lifestyle tend to change.
“I am getting to a point where I’m less tolerant of getting injured and more eager to try and figure out ways to avoid that and mitigate that moving forward,” he said.
“But the intrepid nature of these experiences go hand in hand with the stories that I’m drawn to, so it kind of goes with the territory,”
Shantaram premieres Friday, Oct. 7.
