Cameron Diaz, 52, is making a solid comeback with her blockbuster Netflix movie Back in Action, having retired for a decade before her newly found return.
She always thought that she’d dedicate her time to her family and business but she knew that if she was to make a comeback, it had to be worth it and now, she reveals the reason behind her comeback.
Simply put, it was Jamie Foxx
Diaz stunned everyone with her white attire at the movie’s London premiere, where she revealed that the reason behind her comeback was Jamie Foxx, 57.
She also told The Graham Norton Show: “I got this script and thought that maybe it was time.”
Diaz thinks it’s worth breaking the hiatus
“If I was going to leave my family for 10 hours a day I wanted to do it with the most talented man in the entertainment business,” she explained, referring to Foxx.
She also added: “It is a privilege to make films, and we are all so lucky to do what we do.”
She is grateful for being welcomed back with open arms
Diaz was taken aback by the fact that the door was still open for her despite being gone from the acting industry for a decade. And yet, she thought, “If I let this go away, if I don’t engage again, and if I don’t give it a chance, I am a fool,” referring to the Back in Action opportunity.
Her husband has got her back
The Bad Teacher superstar didn’t forget to credit her husband of 10 years, Benji Madden, for supporting her in pursuing her acting career again. Diaz said that Madden told her: “You’ve been supporting us and building the family.” So, he wanted to return the favor.
He wanted her to do her thing
According to E! News, Diaz told Fortune Magazine’s Most Powerful Women Summit that her husband said: “It’s time for us to support you and let Mommy ascend and do her thing,” given that Diaz was supportive of her husband’s musical career as well.
Will there be future projects?
This is not Diaz’s first time to work with Foxx, having co-starred with him in 1999’s Any Given Sunday and 2014’s Annie.
Whether she’s up to new projects or not is up to her. She told Empire Magazine: “If I say it then it becomes this thing. I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to.”
Her family is her first priority
The star declared that she’s open to “whatever makes sense for me and my family at any given moment.” She’s going with the flow, whether it be a new acting gig or going back on hiatus, it all depends on what’s best for her family.
More about Back in Action
The Netflix movie is about two former CIA agents whose lives are in imminent danger after their identities have been exposed. Diaz decided to change her movie style, saying that she no longer wanted to do romcoms, “only momcoms.”
The reviews are not promising
The action/comedy movie debuted on Netflix on Friday, January 17. The movie received a shocking 24% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a big bummer, considering the fact that this is Diaz’s big comeback after a 10-year hiatus.
News outlets showed no mercy
The Daily Beast deemed the movie an “eye-rolling abomination,” while The Hollywood Reporter tried to soften the blow, having said that the movie was “starry, frothy, cute, harmless.”
It is disappointing that the outcome of Diaz’s comeback wasn’t as expected, however, her return is a major move, and who knows? Maybe something better is in store in the future.
