Most of us are either left- or right-handed, and if suddenly asked to use our non-dominant hand, it would take a lot of work to master it. For someone like Buddy Valastro, who works almost entirely with his hands, adjusting to not having the use of his right hand is clearly taking a little bit of work, according to his Instagram.
Buddy Valastro is best known as the *Cake Boss*.
His reality show on TLC by the same name followed him and his family running Carlo’s Bake Shop in New Jersey. Buddy has also hosted a competition show with Ace of Cake star Duff Goldman called Buddy Vs. Duff .
Buddy is a beloved figure in the food world.

The first episode of Cake Boss aired in 2009, so it’s been over a decade since Buddy became a household name and that people have been following him and his family. It makes sense that when Buddy shared some dramatic news of an accident, people responded.
On September 23, Buddy shared that he had been involved in an accident.

“Was involved in a terrible accident a few days ago… What do you think of my new accessory?” Buddy captioned a shot of himself lying in a hospital bed.
It was later confirmed by People that Buddy had accidentally impaled his hand when his at-home bowling alley equipment had malfunctioned.
A rep for Buddy explained the incident in greater detail.

“There was a malfunction with the bowling pinsetter, a common fix in the past, but it turned into a terrible accident,” they told People about the accident.
“After trying to release the bowling pin from the cage mechanism, his right hand became lodged and compressed inside the unit,” they continued.

“Unable to remove his hand, he can see a 1-1/2″ metal rod slowly and repeatedly impale his hand three times between his ring finger and middle finger.”
The rep confirmed that it was five minutes before Buddy’s family became aware of the situation.
Buddy’s sons, Buddy Jr. and Marco, used a reciprocating saw to “cut through the metal rod and relieve their father from the machine.”

Buddy required two surgeries after the accident, but luckily, he seems to be recovering and keeping in good spirits based on his newer Instagram activity.
Buddy has shared an update on his recovery.

“Family time is the BEST time! Doing it all over again, left handed…” he captioned the shot of himself icing a cake with a very focused expression, adding the hashtags #recovery, #lefty, and #southpaw.
Buddy also shared a special note of gratitude for his wife.

“As long as I have her by my side anything is possible! Thanks to my wife @lisavalastro4. On my road to recovery..” Buddy shared alongside another sweet shot of his wife helping him with a baking task.
It looks like Buddy’s doing a pretty good job with his left hand!

Fans were obviously very excited to see Buddy taking his recovery head-on, and shared messages of love and support in the comments.
“I’m so glad that you are okay! We love you so much Buddy get well soon!” wrote one fan.
