Victoria Beckham Says Being Thin Now Is 'Old Fashioned'

Victoria Beckham knows that beauty standards have had a major overhaul in recent years.

More and more companies are rethinking their campaigns. Like when Aerie launched their "Aerie Real" campaign, which promises no photoshop. Or when Victoria's Secret hired their first model with Down Syndrome.

While there's been some pushback to this from critics, one person who's all about it is Victoria Beckham. In a new interview, the fashion designer declared that "thin is now old-fashioned."

These refreshing comments by the former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, were made amid the launch of her new VB Body shapewear collection.

Her new line was created to flatter all body sizes, with Beckham saying that the dresses in the permanent capsule collection "look great on all different shapes and sizes."

"In fact, the curvier you are ladies, the better," she added.

Victoria is standing behind her words, as evident by her recent interview with Grazia.

The fashion designer opened up about how the world's beauty standards have shifted in positive ways.

"It's an old-fashioned attitude, wanting to be really thin," she said.

"I think women today want to look healthy, and curvy. They want to have some boobs – and a bum." Her goal, she said, is even to get "as good a bottom as I can get."

Beckham recalled how a recent trip to Florida really inspired her.

There, she saw curvy women embracing her curves, a move that she hopes her daughter, Harper, 10, is able to do one day.

Beckham has three other children: Brooklyn, 23, Romeo, 19, and Cruz, 17.

"There are a lot of really curvy women in Miami, and they really own it, you know?" Victoria told the outlet.

"They walk along Miami beach with not a lot of clothes on, and they look fantastic. They show their bodies off with such confidence," she continued.

She found their attitude and their style "really liberating."

As the mother of a daughter, Victoria knows all about how impressionable little girls can be.

So she loved that Harper was around these kinds of women who were "really celebrating their curves and enjoying how they look."

After all, Victoria remembers what it was like to struggle with confidence as a young girl.

In a July 2020 interview with Vogue Australia, she revealed that she was an "awkward teenager" who was bullied at school and didn't have many friends.

"I would never want anyone else to feel how I was made to feel," Victoria said.

"So when Harper started school, I said to her: 'If you’re ever in the playground and there’s a little girl who is sitting on her own, ask her to play with you, go up and engage with her, because Mummy used to be that little girl.'"

As Victoria has gotten older, her confidence has grown as well.

She was one of the members of the Spice Girls, she's married to David Beckham, and she's a successful fashion designer. Life is good!

She's even found a balance with her health and fitness journey.

"It's not about being a certain size," she explained to 'Grazia.'

"It's about knowing who you are and being happy with who you are," she continued on, adding that she has struck her own balance.

"I have found my own balance between wanting to have fun and being disciplined about eating healthily and working out."

"When you're younger you fight against that balance," she added.

The mom of four has switched her "tons of cardio" routine into one that involves lifting heavy weights five or six days a week with her husband.

"It's good to switch things up and keep your body guessing. I've got so much more muscle tone now," she said.
