14+ Times Alex Trebek Was The Most Iconic Game Show Host Ever

Alex Trebek has been hosting the iconic gameshow, Jeopardy! for longer than I've existed. He is a national treasure.

His highlight reel of hilarious, and downright savage moments on the show is seriously impressive.

Sadly, a few days ago Alex Trebek announced that he has been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.

"Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I'm going to fight this," he said in a video.

"I'm going to keep working and with the love and support of my family and friends."

"And with the help of your prayers also -- I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease," he continued.

So, in support of Alex and the war he is waging against cancer, we thought it would be nice to look back at some of his funniest moments.

As of this year, Alex has been hosting Jeopardy for 35 years.

Needless to say, a lot has happened in the last 35 years.

More than enough moments to prove why Alex Trebek is the greatest gameshow host of all time.

That time he tried out Auto-tune.

Back in 2010, Alex got to sing an entire category using auto-tune in a very self-explanatorily named category “Alex Meets Auto-Tune".

The time he showed up not wearing any pants.

In 2005, during a very tense Tournament of Champions, as a gesture to lighten everyone's mood, Alex walked out with no pants on.

That's certainly one way to lighten the mood!

The time he rapped an entire category of clues.

In a category that exclusively read popular rap lyrics, Alex did his best to read out the lyrics with gusto, and even swagger.

I think rap might be his new calling.

The time he said people who listen to "nerdcore hip-hop" are losers.

A contestant explained what her favorite genre of music was — "nerdcore hip-hop" — a genre of artists who consider themselves to be of the nerd variety, and rap about science, science fiction, fantasy, and other things of that nature.

Alex interrupted her and said "Losers, in other words."

Savage.

The time he did an impression of someone dancing under a strobe light.

After a contestant correctly guessed "strobe light" as an answer, Alex then proceeded to demonstrate how one would dance in a nightclub, underneath a strobe light.

It was... surprisingly accurate?

The time he made a joke about a girl's dead pet goat.

A contestant was explaining to Alex how her pet goat recently died after eating a bag of QUIKRETE.

Alex laughed, made a joke of it, and the contestant said "Alex, you're being insensitive."

The time he insinuated that a female contestant knew a thing or two more about threesomes than he did.

After a contestant guessed that the correct answer to a clue was "threesome," Alex said:

"Cara the contestant obviously has had much more experiences than I."

The time he took $3200 away from a contestant for not pronouncing "gangsta" properly.

A contestant nearly got an answer right, but said "gangster" instead of "gangsta," and Alex deemed that was not good enough, and marked the answer as incorrect.

The time he made fun of a contestant for guessing the word "hoe."

When contestant, Ken Jennings, mischievously, and incorrectly, guessed the word "hoe" Alex immediately started ripping on him.

Then he made fun of the Utah schooling system.

After making fun of the contestant who thought the answer was "hoe," he proceeded to jokingly roast the schools in Utah by saying:

"They teach you that at the schools in Utah, huh?"

The time he called an aspiring rock and roll journalist a "groupie."

After a contestant told Alex she was a budding music journalist, he looked her dead in the eye and said "you want to be a groupie, in other words."

Yikes.

The time he boo'd a contestant that didn't know a Reese Witherspoon movie.

The category was Reese Witherspoon and the clues were short descriptions of some of her movie roles.

When a contestant didn't know the answer to one of Reese's more popular flicks, Alex quietly boo'd him.

The time he gave a contestant a brief history lesson.

A contestant misspoke, and said she stayed "in the chapel that Anne Boleyn got beheaded." When she quickly tried to correct herself, Alex intervened and said "get your story right." and then began to give her a short history lesson.

The time a contestant got an answer wrong and he responded with "hahahahaha, no."

After a contestant confidently gave their answer, Alex began condescendingly laughing, and then abruptly said "no."

The time he called a contestant a "weirdo."

Upon meeting the contestants at the beginning of the show, one contestant told Alex that she had trained a goldfish before.

She went on, in detail, explaining how she trained her goldfish, while Alex was hanging his head in disappointment.

He then turned to the camera and said they get some "weirdos" on the show sometimes.

The time he made fun of contestants for not knowing anything about football.

When the category was about American football, not a single contestant knew the correct answer, and Alex wasn't having it.

He sarcastically said "I can tell you guys are big football fans."

The time he performed Shakespeare.

In the category named Hamlet, Alex read everything out in a very theater-esque, dramatic tone— proving he could have pursued a career as an actor!

The time he used a megaphone.

YouTube | Jeopardy!

When a contestant got an answer wrong, instead of simply telling him that she was incorrect, he decided to be savage as hell, and yell it out of a megaphone.

And lastly, even though this didn't happen on "Jeopardy" it was still very epic: The time he appeared on an episode of the "X-Files."

Turns out, Alex Trebek is more than just a savage game show host. He's also quite the actor!

A man of many talents, you might say!

I could go on forever, listing off Alex's most memorable moments on Jeopardy!

He's been an incredibly host, and we wish him all the best as he embarks on his journey to defeat cancer.
