It's hard to believe it's been six years since Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton first got together. I remember hearing the news of this unlikely pair and being skeptical, but hey — time has proven these two lovebirds are totally meant for each other.

Now, after tying the knot this past summer, Blake has gotten candid on what it means to be a stepdad to Gwen's three sons, and how special their bond has become.

While chatting with "People" magazine, Blake got real about the future of his career. At 45-years-old, Blake has achieved more than most country artists will in their entire career.

With 28 #1 hits and a 21-season run on The Voice, Blake is ready to wind things down and is looking forward to doing that with Gwen and her boys.

"What I've been looking forward to doing for the last four or five years ... is eyeing that timeline, that part of my career, where I just need to start stripping some things away," he explained.

"You gotta get some life in there, and marrying Gwen [Stefani], I've married into a family. She's got three boys ... and all of a sudden you go, there's other stuff."

The idea of taking on Gwen's sons wasn't that big of a concern to the country singer because his own father had married his mom when she had Blake's older brother.

"He took Richie on and raised him from the time he was 1 year old, and my brother never thought of my dad as anything other than his dad," he recalled.

"The example that my dad set for me was that [child] was not even a consideration [in a romantic partnership]. You got three boys? Awesome!"

"My dad did it. My dad raised me. I could do this," he continued.

"I didn't know what I was signing up for, but I was all about signing up for it."

He added, "And every day I've fallen in love with the boys as much as I do with Gwen."

Now, don't mind me, I'm just off to cry for the rest of the afternoon — what a sweetheart!
