In an interview with ELLE , Billie Eilish opens up about her decision, thus far in her music career, to only wear baggy clothing that hides her figure — and how that could all change after she turns 18.
In a recent interview with ELLE Magazine, Billie Eilish gets real about why she usually wears oversized shorts, t-shirts and hoodies.
People that think she dresses like that as a tactic to desexualize herself are “missing the point,” she said .
“The point is not: Hey, let’s go slut-shame all these girls for not dressing like Billie Eilish,” she explained.
“It makes me mad. I have to wear a big shirt for you not to feel uncomfortable about my boobs!”
After Billie was photographed climbing out of her tour wearing a form-fitted tank top rather than her usual baggy style that we’re used to, her chest has been quite the discussed topic on Twitter.
“My boobs were trending on Twitter!,” she said.
“At number one! What is that?! Every outlet wrote about my boobs!”
“I look good in it,” she added. “I was born with [expletive] boobs, bro. I was born with DNA that was gonna give me big [expletive] boobs.”
Of course, most people’s main concern with that trend was that Billie is only 17.
The fact that Billie is a minor makes a lot of the men who are commenting on her body and her appearance seem extra skeevy.
There was also the issue of this Nylon Magazine cover.
Billie herself commented on this cover shot, saying she was in no way involved in the creation of it, and, “you’re gonna make a picture of me shirtless?? that’s not real?? at 17? and make it the cover?”
“Even if the picture was supposed to look like some robot version of me…”
“I did not consent in any way,” she finished.
Kind of messed up for a magazine to use a 17 year old’s image like that without even asking her first — especially if they were going to make her topless!
Billie has said that her breasts have been an issue for her for as long as she can remember.
Which is why she made the decision to cover them up in the first place.
She then told a story about how she offended somebody once by wearing a top that was on the more revealing side.
“I was recently FaceTiming a close friend of mine who’s a dude, and I was wearing a tank top,” she said .
“He was like, ‘Ugh, put a shirt on!’ And I said, ‘I have a shirt on.’”
“Someone with smaller boobs could wear a tank top, and I could put on that exact tank top and get slut-shamed because my boobs are big.”
“That is stupid. It’s the same shirt!,” she went on.
But Billie then explained that when she turns 18 in three months, we may start to see her style evolve.
“I’m gonna be a woman,” she said. “I wanna show my body.”
“What if I wanna make a video where I wanna look desirable?” she questioned . “Not a porno!,” she quickly clarified.
“But I know it would be a huge thing,” she said. “I know people will say, ‘I’ve lost all respect for her.’”
She recalled a time a troll once left a comment on one of her videos that has stuck with her.
“Tomboys always end up being the biggest whores,” the troll wrote.
“I can’t win!,” she said .
But despite the criticisms, Billie says that she’s never been happier.
“I’m finally not miserable,” she said.
“Two years ago, I felt like nothing mattered; every single thing was pointless. Not just in my life, but everything in the whole world. I was fully clinically depressed. It’s insane to look back and not be anymore.”
“I’m in the happiest place of my life, and I didn’t think that I would even make it to this age.”
“I didn’t think I would be happy again. And here I am — I’ve gotten to a point where I’m finally okay. It’s not because I’m famous. It’s not because I have a little more money. It’s so many different things,” she said .
“I love fame! Being famous is great, but it was horrible for a year,” she explained.
“Now I love what I do, and I’m me again. The good me. And I love the eyes on me.”
So, there you have it! Billie wears baggy clothes because she’s trying her best not to offend anybody with her body.
But get ready to be offended because in three months we might be seeing more of Billie.

In Wintour’s latest installment of Go Ask Anna , she spoke incredibly highly of Billie’s style. She said, “What I like about Billie’s style is it’s very particular to her.”
“She’s obviously channelling one person, which is herself.”
Wintour went on to say that she had recently met Billie, adding, “When she came up to see us recently at Vogue, she was in head-to-toe, bright, bright orange and looked incredible.”
But Wintour didn’t just comment on Billie’s actual style.
“I also want to celebrate/applaud her point of view and activism on body positivity, and how outspoken she is on that subject,” she added.
Even fashion giants like Anna Wintour are all aboard the Eilish train.
And we can’t blame them! Not only is Billie rocking what she feels most comfortable in, she looks fantastic doing it.
