Bill Cosby has broken his silence on Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s death at 54. The two played father and son on the well-loved 80s sitcom The Cosby Show.
Warner’s death was announced on Monday
It was reported yesterday on Monday, July 21, that actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner had died at the age of 54.
His cause of death is said to be an accidental drowning, as reported by AP News.
Costa Rica’s police shared his cause of death
Authorities said the actor had been swimming at Playa Cocles in Limon province when the current pulled him into the deep ocean.
Costa Rica’s national police shared that he died of asphyxia.
His friends started paying him tribute
The actor received pouring tributes from his peers following his unexpected passing.
The Cosby Show co-star Adam Sandler spoke kindly of Warner, telling Entertainment Tonight, “Malcolm was so nice to me when I was on the show.”
“We had such good times together,” Sandler added, as he explained that he couldn’t believe the news of Warner’s death.
Tyrese Gibson also wrote Warner a poem
Fast & Furious actor Tyrese Gibson also wrote a poem titled ‘The Gentle Giant’ in tribute to his late friend.
Part of the poem read, “Today, we lost a gentle giant. A man who won our hearts not by force, but by quiet grace. From the very beginning, Malcolm-Jamal Warner reminded us that being calm, classy, sophisticated, and soulful could carry you far in life.”
Gibson praised Warner for his involvement on The Cosby Show
Gibson’s poem went on, “He was the soft-spoken strength behind a generation’s most beloved show. We watched The Cosby Show and saw, for the first time, a world many of us had never known. A Black family made up of doctors, lawyers, artists, and thinkers. A household rooted in love, education, laughter, and dignity.”
Now Bill Cosby has also reacted to the news
Andrew Wyatt, a representative for Bill Cosby, has shared how the 88-year-old star reacted to the shocking news.
Bill Cosby and Malcolm-Jamal Warner played father and son in the beloved 80s sitcom which ran for eight seasons.
Cosby felt it was like losing his son all over again
Speaking to TMZ, Wyatt said, “When Bill got the call that Warner died on vacation in Costa Rica, it reminded him of being in the studio filming The Cosby Show in January 1997, when he got a call informing him that his son Ennis Cosby was shot dead in a failed robbery attempt.”
Cosby’s only son, who died at 27, was fatally murdered in an attempted robbery while changing a flat tire in Los Angeles.
