Ever since Heard referred to herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse” in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed, things have taken a south turn for her.
The Depp vs. Heard trial was a pivotal point for both actors in their careers. Now that Johnny Depp is stepping back into the Hollywood scene, many wonder where Amber Heard has gone and what her future plans are.
What led to the trial
After her 2018 op-ed, though she didn’t mention Depp by name, he sued her for defamation in 2019. He alleged that Heard had claimed that he’d “perpetrated domestic violence against her,” calling it “categorically and demonstrably false,” as reported by The Independent.
Why the trial became a sensation
It was Heard’s response to Depp’s lawsuit that made the trial even more media coverage worthy, as she countersued against Depp to $100 million.
In a trial that revealed juicy secrets about their marital life, Depp eventually won two of his three lawsuits, having been awarded $10.35 million in damages. Heard, on the other hand, received $2 million after winning one of her three counterlawsuits against Depp.
How Heard’s life changed after the trial
After stunning details had been revealed about her during the trial, including her marriage, divorce, financials, and her erstwhile romance with Elon Musk, her career took a blow.
Additionally, she hasn’t also the case but also her privacy. That’s when she decided to leave the country with her daughter.
She opened a new chapter
After the Aquaman alum was “heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence and sway” of The Pirates of the Caribbean star, she sold her Yucca Valley, California home for $1.1 million and moved to Spain.
She traveled with her daughter
She first resided in the the island of Mallorca, Spain, in a rental with her daughter Oonagh Paige who she welcomed in 2021 via surrogacy.
She then settled in Madrid, enjoying being a mom there. According to People, she told reporters that she “loves living” in Spain.
She is also expecting a surprise
Heard is expecting her second child, a source revealed to People last December, saying: “It is still quite early in the pregnancy, so you will appreciate that we do not want to go into much detail at this stage. Suffice to say that Amber is delighted both for herself and Oonagh Paige.”
Heard is working on herself and moving on from the aftermath of the trial as insiders revealed to People that “this is all behind her now, though. She has new energy and is focused on things that she loves.”
