Culinary star Anne Burrell was found “unconscious and unresponsive” at her home before being pronounced dead at the scene, as per the New York City Police Department.
She passed away on Tuesday
Officers responded to a call about “an unconscious and unresponsive 55-year-old female” on Tuesday, June 17, before EMS “responded and pronounced her deceased on scene,” as per People.
The exact cause of Burrell’s death is still pending an autopsy.
Her family released a statement
The chef and mentor’s family confirmed her death in a statement, saying, “Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered.”
“Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
The Food Network also mourned her
Representatives for the Food Network also told The New York Post, “Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring.”
“Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”
She was a television star
Burrell began her career in television after teaching at the Institute of Culinary Education in the early 2000s.
She appeared on Iron Chef America, Chef Wanted, Chopped, and was the long-time host of Worst Cooks in America.
Burrell also released two books
On top of her work on television, the culinary star also released two cookbooks: Cook Like a Rock Star in 2011, which became a New York Times bestseller, and Own Your Kitchen: Recipes to Inspire and Empower in 2013.
Burrell is survived by a loving family
The Food Network icon is survived by her husband Stuart Claxton, his son, Javier, as well as her children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas, and her mother, Marlene, and sister, Jane, and her brother Ben.
