As the coronavirus pandemic rages on with no definitive end in sight, masks have become increasingly popular — the new normal, you might say.
Clothing companies have gotten creative and have been selling cloth masks to those who don’t have access to medical masks. But Alyssa Milano opted for a crocheted mask instead and fans have not stopped trolling her for it.

People are scared but are doing everything they can to stay safe and healthy during these uncertain times.
Due to this, a lot of people all around the world are wearing masks to protect themselves from getting the virus.
But masks don’t grow on trees! And hospitals need them way more than we do.
So people have been taking matters into their own hands.
People are creating their own face masks! Or buying from independent artists who are helping out during these times.
This includes celebrities!
They have to stay safe, too, and are coming up with ways to keep themselves and their families protected.
This includes Alyssa Milano, who took the time to get handmade masks and post a photo of her and her family wearing them.
But, as usual, the internet wanted to tear her down for it.
So let’s get into it.
Actress and philanthropist Alyssa Milano is under fire from fans after posting a photo on Twitter of herself wearing a crocheted face mask.
Understandably, it doesn’t appear to be the most effective way to protect yourself from COVID-19, considering it is full of gaps. Or so we all thought.
“Show me your masks! Masks keep people safe and healthy. Show me yours! Ready? Go! #WearAMask,” she tweeted alongside the photo of herself, her children, and her husband.
Her children and husband appear to be wearing proper masks, by the looks of it.
But hers was completely different.
So, naturally, she has been incessantly mocked by trolls on Twitter for her poor choice of protection.
Even media outlets were dragging her for it.
CryptoCoinNews published an article with the headline: “Alyssa Milano’s Face Mask Is Her Crown as Queen of a Wildly Stupid Weekend.”
And *Mediate* published an article with the headline: “Alyssa Milano Massively Mocked Over Coronavirus Mask Tweet: Guys, Who Wants to Tell Her?”
To add insult to injury, over 70,000 tweets were published slamming her for her bizarre face mask.
New York City Republican councilman, Joe Borelli, tweeted: “Her mask is knitted from yarn, with large holes by her nose. You can see there is nothing under it.”
And Raheem Kassam, editor of The National Pulse tweeted : “Uhhhh… @Alyssa_Milano’s mask is knitted. Not a real mask in any way. This stops NO germs in OR out. If anything she’s increasing her likelihood of catching something as it will just live on her face. Unreal.”
Others made insulting remarks, insinuating that she isn’t a smart person.
This person suggested that Alyssa stick to acting, suggesting that it doesn’t require intelligence.
Which is not only insulting to Alyssa, but to all actors. Let’s let actors live their lives, shall we?
Some found her mask to be laughable.
I suppose if she were wearing a mask that was obviously ineffective, it would be amusing to a certain extent.
But some people took it a bit too far! It can happen to anyone!
This person actually encouraged their followers to bully Alyssa and call her a “moron.”
Thankfully, it was Alyssa who got the last laugh.
She responded to the backlash with an absolute mic-dropper, shutting down all the trolls who had been dragging her.
“[Expletive], mask has a carbon filter in it. So, yes, it might be crochet but totally safe. #WearAMask,” she tweeted, along with an image of the aforementioned filter.
“Mask has a filter in it for [expletive] sake. A carbon one. My mom makes them,” she added .
She then retweeted a message, directed at the trolls for jumping to conclusions without knowing the full story.
“What a metaphor for life…idiots judging something on the surface without knowing what lies beneath…do better people,” the tweet reads .
Furthermore, she responded to the backlash via her podcast, *Sorry Not Sorry* as well.
On the podcast’s official Twitter page, her team wrote:
“ Alyssa Milano knows the importance of wearing cotton or filtered masks in public. Hear why it matters so much in our special coronavirus episodes with vaccine scientist @PeterHotez.”
Some people, however, don’t believe that Alyssa’s mask had a carbon filter in it at all.
This person pointed out that if you zoom in on the photo, it is clear that her face is showing through the holes in the mask.
Others simply thought that even *if* there truly was a carbon filter in there, it wouldn’t have prevented the spread or contraction of coronavirus.
They explained that if the mask is not properly sealed around the face, then particles can still get in and/or escape.
This person pointed out that by wearing a mask that is not fitted to her face and parading it all over social media, she is encouraging others to do the same — doing everyone and herself a disservice.
Yikes.
