There are many things in life that happen that we do not expect . Losing someone we love is one of those things. When we get into relationships with someone, fall in love and choose to be with them, we make tons of plans for the future and talk about what is to come . When our time with our loved one is cut short , all of those future plans seem to fall away rather quickly.
Losing a romantic partner can be devastating.
Having to say goodbye to someone you are romantically involved with can be painful, espeiclay when it happens at such a young age. When someone you love dies early, having to move on with your life can be challenging.

When we grow old, losing our spouse may seem like something that is bound to happen—in old age. But, when we’re young, in our teenage years, unfortunately losing our loved ones can be even more painful because it’s so unexpected.
Mackenzie Stewart felt that very pain.
Stewart and her boyfriend, Marshall Curtis, had been dating for several years and even talked about spending their life together. Unfortunately, Marshall died in a car accident during their senior year of high school.
Stewart did not want to attend her senior prom without Curtis.
Having to lose the love of her life was painful enough, Stewart did not want to attend the dance without Curtis, who she had always planned to go with.
However, someone changed her mind.
“We were heartbroken for her that Marshall couldn’t take her. She insisted she didn’t want to go without him. We were also wondering who could fill his shoes. That’s when Carson decided to ask her if he could take her,” Marshall’s mom, Elizabeth told Yahoo Lifestyle .
Carson is Marshall’s father, and he decided it was his job to step up and take Stewart to the senior prom in honor of his son.
Curtis asked Stewart if he can take her and shared it was “emotional for them all.”
“She’s been a big part of our family for over two years now and she’s Marshall’s girl. It wasn’t easy, but we were overwhelmed of all the support of the community, the people who stand behind us near and far,” the father said.
Not only did he take her to the prom, but they also honored his son.
Curtis and Stewart wore coordinating outfits, the same outfits that she was going to wear with Marshall. In addition, they showed up in a 1965 Volkswagen Bradley, which had a tribute to Mashall near the back wheel—a sticker with a photo of Marshall and Stewart together that read, “Marshall and Mackenzie forever.”
At prom, Stewart sported a tattoo dedicated to her late boyfriend.
On her forearm, Stewart got a tattoo of a bass fish, which Marshall loved, with the initials D.E.F.I, which stands for “don’t ever forget it.” According to Marshall’s mom, it’s a family trademark. They always say, “I love you, DEFI.”
People at the prom were touched when they arrived.
When they arrived, Stewart and Curtis were met with applause. They walked arm-in-arm into the school and were met with more applause and many tears. On top of their entrance, Stewart was also crowned prom queen.
Marshall’s mom shared that her son would be proud.
“The photos of the two of them are beautiful. Marshall would be so proud of Mackenzie and his dad. He loved them both deeply. This was the last thing that Carson could do for our boy. I think Marshall would be honored too that his dad stepped up,” Elizabeth Curtis shared .
People online were incredibly touched by the story.
“I honestly applaud the bravery of both these individuals. Although they are both hurting they still made this gesture in a tribute to the late son/prom date,” shared one person on Reddit.
