A hospital in Brazil recently welcomed one of the most giant babies born in the world. Angerson dos Santos was born on January 18th in the Hospital Padre Colombo in Parintins, Amazonas; he was nearly a record-breaker newborn.
They Performed An Emergency C-Section
Angerson was over 59 cm (23.2 inches) and 16 pounds, while the average baby is around 8 pounds and 50 cm (19.7 inches). The baby was born through C-section after the doctors noticed he was too big for his mother to carry him to term.

His Mother Wasn’t Expecting That
Cleidiane Santos dos Santos , Angerson’s mother, who is 27 years old, said she didn’t expect him to be so big; she said she had gone to the hospital for a routine checkout, and the next thing she knew, her baby was born.
She Couldn’t Have Performed A Natural Delivery
“I did not expect this surprise. I thought it would be four kilos, but it turned out to be seven kilos,” she added. Doctors believed it was too dangerous to perform a natural delivery, so they performed the surgery the next day.
Angerson Went Viral
Everyone in the hospital was shocked at Angerson’s size; it quickly became national news, and his pictures went viral. The obstetrician said he received intensive care for his unusual size because it was a high-risk situation; still, everything went well during his delivery.
The Biggest Baby In The State
Angerson is the biggest newborn baby in the Amazonas state to date. He was kept in an incubator for control, but he is in perfect health; he was born without any abnormality. His mother is also stable.
He Nearly Broke The National Record
He almost broke the record in the country; in 2005, Ademilton dos Santos was born and weighed 17 lbs. In comparison, the world record was in Italy in 1955 by a baby girl that weighed 22 lbs.
No One Knows Why He Is So Big
It is unclear why Angerson was so big; when Ademilton was born, doctors believed it was a consequence of his mother’s diabetes. His size was also a surprise for his parents, who expected a big baby but not that big.
His Clothes Don’t Fit
His parents had bought a lot of clothes preparing for his arrival; however, Angerson doesn’t fit in any of them. So the hospital is doing a fundraiser to help the parents out with the expenses. They asked for clothes for nine months to 1 year, along with bigger diapers.
His Mother Is Very Thankful
The mother said, “I want to thank the team at Hospital Padre Colombo, who have been giving me strength and treating me very well, since I arrived here, if it weren’t for them, I don’t know what would have become of me.”
