Nine years since the show’s cancelation, streaming service Hulu is committed to bringing back Futurama , hoping to deliver 20 new episodes of the adult cartoon next year.
Though it was just announced, there are already some concerns regarding casting and who will and will not be returning, but in a broad stroke, it seems that most Futurama fans are excited about the show’s return!

Hulu announced the return of a beloved show.
A Futurama revival has been confirmed, with the streaming platform announcing 20 new episodes. The sci-fi comedy was originally created by David X. Cohen and Matt Groening and ran for 14 years, the first episode airing in 1999 and the last one airing in 2013 after the show was suddenly canceled.
Many original cast members are returning to reprise their roles.
First is the show’s original creators, David X. Cohen and Matt Groening, Groening having also created The Simpsons .
Most of the voice cast appears to be reprising their roles as well, including Billy West, voice of Fry, Katey Sagal, voice of Leela, and Phil LaMarr, voice of Hermes, as well as many others.
There is one important name missing from that list, though.
And it has fans up in arms.
John DiMaggio, voice of Bender, was not included among the confirmed returning cast members. People immediately began rallying against Hulu, telling them that the show would suffer a great loss were he to not return. DiMaggio’s only word on it thus far is his above Tweet.
As it stands, the creators seem to be excited to bring the show back.
In a statement, Cohen said, “I’m thrilled to have another chance to think about the future… or really anything other than the present.” Groening added, “It’s a true honor to announce the triumphant return of Futurama one more time before we get canceled abruptly again.”
It’s not just the show’s creators that are excited, but so is Hulu!
President of Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment Craig Erwich said in a press release, “When presented with the opportunity to bring fans and viewers new episodes of Futurama, we couldn’t wait to dive in. This iconic series helped blaze the trail for the success of adult animation since its initial launch and we look forward to Matt & David continuing to pave the way […].”
Production begins in March of this year, and they’re hoping to premiere the return in 2023.
