As much as we’d all love to have the most put together house on the street, it’s really not always possible.
Even if we bring in fun decor, paint our walls, and buy new appliances, there will always be certain things that are just downright eyesores.
Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make these ugly fixtures in our home so much better.
1. We talked about adding some tape or paint to your white appliances, but your washer and dryer aren’t the only place you can add some funk.
Although, I am really curious how easily a vinyl wrap would come off of a fridge.
My new lease actually says I’m not allowed to add adhesives to my appliances, which kind of makes me sad because I’m really into this cool idea.
If you’d rather go for function, you can also get chalkboard vinyl that you could wrap your fridge in and use for lists. Such a smart idea from Aunt Peaches .
2. Hide your jewelry behind a funky painting.
Personally, I like the way well-organized jewelry looks when it’s hung up on the wall.
But, if you have a hard time keeping your stuff organized, it probably makes sense to try and hide it. I am all for a project that allows my laziness to somehow look cute and adorable.
I’m not 100% sure how this project is done, but I think a creative person could figure it out based on the photos! You can get more jewelry organization inspiration from DIY Enthusiasts .
3. Turn your cords into something unique and fun on your desk by adding these fun electrical towers.
I honestly think these are SUPER cute, and would totally use them on my desk to help organize my cords. I’m not exactly sure where Daniel Ballou found these, but I totally feel like you could make them out of wire, too.
The best part? You can play around with them and the cords without getting electrocuted. Well, that’s what one of my colleagues wanted me to write in this article anyways.
4. Cover your tv with some interesting art when you aren’t using it.
I’ve never really thought of my TV as being particularly ugly, but you’ve got to admit that this space does look a little bit bland.
I’m definitely impressed with the creativity from Tulip And Turnip because this project is really cool and makes a huge splash in their home.
This is a great way to add a functional piece of artwork to your home, but I wouldn’t invest in something super expensive.
Just look at how one piece of artwork totally transformed this living room space.
They took a painting that was pretty close in size to their TV, and added a couple of brackets with rubber on them to the back of the painting.
Now, whenever they’re feeling like they want some color in the room, they can just hand the painting on the TV. The rubber they added helps to make sure the TV doesn’t get any scratches.
I’m actually really into this idea and the creativity it took!
5. Give ugly doors an update with some tape and some paint.
I know I definitely have had my fair share of ugly doors in my house. And the worst part is that they aren’t exactly easy to upgrade on a budget.
Turns out, giving your doors a bit of a paint job isn’t actually that difficult to do. You just need the right tools and a bit of creativity to get the look just right.
That’s why I was so excited to come across this tutorial!
The paint gave this door a HUGE upgrade that I’m really excited about.
You’ll need some tape and some paint for this project, but they give the door the illusion that it is much fancier than it actually is.
You’ll use painter’s tape to outline the shape to give it depth, then use your paint to cover the whole thing. If you need a bit more detail, you can always head on over to Houzz to see how Brian Patrick Flynn made this door his own!
6. Hide the ugly cords from your TV with a cute piece of art.
To hide the cords of their TV, The Front Poarch used a wood frame, and stapled fabric to it! This way, they could hide any unsightly cords behind the panel, and have a unique piece of artwork in their home, too.
What a cool way to hide the ugly stuff, and made a huge statement in your living space.
My TV sits firmly on a TV stand, but I’m kind into this idea of mounting my TV on a fabric panel. TBH, the cords are what have stopped me from wanting to hang my TV, so this could be the perfect solution for me.
7. Cover that unsightly air conditioning unit when you don’t need it in the winter.
Bless the world for air conditioners, but man are those things an eyesore! In the winter when you don’t need an AC, you can cover it up. It’s perfect because it also keeps the draft out, and the warmth in.
And once you’ve covered it, you can turn it into a piece of art, or a chalkboard!
Decor Hacks shared this super innovative way to hide your AC, and it’s definitely something I’d think about if I ever install one of these bad boys!
This makes the space so much more versatile and useful!
8. Got some ugly cords that need a bit of a makeover?
The Vow had the genius idea of covering them with rope!
Basically you just need some rope, and a bit of glue to hold it together. All you need to do is wrap the rope around the cord until the cord itself is covered.
How much cooler does this cord look when it’s wrapped in rope?!
I’m so into this project, I think I’m going to give it a try in my new place. I’m super excited to take some of the projects from this article and put them to go use in my apartment! This one will DEFINITELY come in handy.
9. Hide your ugly electronics behind something cute on your bookshelves.
Twelve On Main created this hollow box that they could put some of their TV entertainment equipment in.
I need a way to hide my modem, and this could definitely work! I’ll have to give it a shot and see.
