Actors take on many roles during their careers and, while some of these roles earn them worldwide praise and prestige, others, well, earn them a lifetime of regret.
When it comes to the latter, some aren’t afraid to speak out against these movies — or even their own performances.

1. Channing Tatum: *G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra*
“I’ll be honest. I [expletive] hate that movie,” the actor said while on Howard Stern’s radio show.
“I was pushed into doing it. The script wasn’t any good. And I didn’t want to do something that I — that I was a fan of since I was a kid and watched every morning growing up.”
“And didn’t want to do something that was 1) bad, and 2) I just didn’t know if I wanted to be G.I. Joe.”
Sadly, audiences agreed, as the movie got so-so reviews and only 34% on Rotten Tomatoes .
Despite his thoughts on the film, though, he went back for its sequels.
2. Nicole Kidman: *Australia*
It was the first movie she did following the success of Moulin Rouge .
“I can’t look at this movie and be proud of what I’ve done,” Kidman admitted on a Sydney radio station.
“It’s just impossible for me to connect to it emotionally.”
3. Halle Berry: *Catwoman*
It’s the movie that earned her a Razzie, so no wonder she hates it!
“First of all, I want to thank Warner Bros,” she said in her acceptance speech for the award, “Thank you for putting me in a piece of [expletive], god-awful movie.”
“You know, it was just what my career needed, you know?”
She wasn’t holding back: “I was at the top, and then Catwoman just plummeted me to the bottom.”
But it seems like she made a more than healthy comeback.
4. Val Kilmer: *Batman Forever*
There’s a reason the movie star only played the caped crusader once: He hated it, believe it or not!
This came about after investor Warren Buffett visited the set of Batman Forever with his grandkids, and Kilmer told all.
While Kilmer was dressed in costume in anticipation of their visit, he found that the kids were more interested in playing with the movie props.
“That’s why it’s so easy to have five or six Batmans,” Kilmer explained.
“It’s not about Batman. There is no Batman.”
5. George Clooney: *Batman & Robin*
It’s not just Val Kilmer who didn’t like playing Batman. George Clooney felt embarrassed after critics and audiences ripped his movie apart.
Currently, it only has 11% on Rotten Tomatoes, so that should tell you everything you need to know.
“It was a difficult film to be good in,” Clooney admitted.
“With hindsight it’s easy to look back at this and go ‘Woah, that was really [expletive] and I was really bad in it.’”
At least he’s got self-awareness! And he’s been in great movies since.
6. James Franco: *Your Highness*
With such an all-star comedic cast — James Franco, Danny McBride, and Natalie Portman — there were such high hopes for the film.
But Franco put it best when he told GQ : “ Your Highness ? That movie sucks. You can’t get around that.”
7. Daniel Radcliffe: *Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince*
This one may kill the magic for Harry Potter fans.
“It’s hard to watch a film like ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,’ because I’m just not very good in it. I hate it,” Radcliffe told the Mail on Sunday .
“My acting is very one-note and I can see I got complacent and what I was trying to do just didn’t come across.”
He later added: “My best film is the fifth one ( Order of the Phoenix ) because I can see a progression.”
8. Julia Roberts: *I Love Trouble*
The actress hated the film mostly because she hated her co-star, Nick Nolte. It’s never fun to work with someone you aren’t a fan of.
She told The New York Times that, while he can be “charming and nice, he’s also completely disgusting.”
9. Ben Affleck: *Gigli*
The actor’s bad blood towards the movie has a lot to do with his relationship with Jennifer Lopez at the time.
“It would have just been a bad movie but a bad movie without any…. Like, no one would have cared about it. You know what I mean, like, Angelina Jolie had a bad movie [Beyond Borders/Tomb Raider] that year that came out and nobody cared,” he said to TimesTalk .
“But uh, but because I was dating Jennifer Lopez that made it a big [expletive] deal, you know?”
“And uh, it was like, not only is it a bad movie but, ‘They’re dating each other in the bad movie!'”
“Bennifer” eventually ended their engagement in 2004.
10. Katherine Heigl: *Knocked Up*
In the past, the actress has ruined her career spoken out about two different projects: Knocked Up and Grey’s Anatomy .
For the Judd Apatow comedy, her criticism had to do with the movie feeling ” a little sexist .”
She told *Vanity Fair*:
“It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys.”
As you can imagine, Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen didn’t like this. Rogen told Howard Stern that he felt “betrayed.”
11. Gwyneth Paltrow: *Shallow Hal*
For a movie that’s widely criticized for being “fatphobic,” it’s no wonder the actress hates it!
She called it a ” disaster ” earlier this year and, in the past, she’s also spoken out against it. So she clearly has some regrets.
She told *W Magazine*, “The first day I tried [the fat suit] on, I was in the Tribeca Grand and I walked through the lobby,” she began.
“It was so sad; it was so disturbing. No one would make eye contact with me because I was obese,” she said .
12. Mark Wahlberg: *The Happening*
Referring to his The Fighter costar, Amy Adams, Wahlberg said:
“We had actually had the luxury of having lunch before to talk about another movie, and it was a really bad movie that I did. She dodged the bullet. And then I was still able to…I don’t want to tell you what movie…all right, The Happening .”
13. Michael Fassbender: *X-Men: Days Of Future Past*
Fassbender even went so far as to say that he found his own performance cringe-worthy!
“I just think it’s me shouting . It’s just like…some dude shouting.” I personally love Michael as Magneto and thought he did a fantastic job in the franchise.
He also didn’t care for his work in *Assassin’s Creed*, either!
When asked what he would do differently, Fassbender replied:
“I would make it more entertaining , that’s really the main note. The feeling of the film, I think it took itself too seriously and I would get to the action a lot quicker. I think there’s three beginnings of the film, which is a mistake.”
14. Dev Patel: *The Last Airbender*
“I completely felt overwhelmed by the experience. I felt like I wasn’t being heard. That was really scary for me, and that’s really when I learned the power of no, the idea of saying no. Listen to that instinct you get when you read those words for the first time.”
15. Jeremy Irons: *Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice*
When asked his opinions on the negative reviews surrounding Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , Irons said:
“Deservedly so. I mean it took £800 million, so the kicking didn’t matter but it was sort of overstuffed …It was very muddled. I think the next one will be simpler. The script is certainly a lot smaller, it’s more linear.”

When asked his opinions on Twilight , Pattinson summed up his feelings by stating that it was rather strange to be acting in “something you don’t particularly like.”

“Every single scene, I’m like ‘Really, really? You did it like that? Oh my God.’ Even my American accent, I can’t listen to it. It’s awful . Hopefully it’s so much better now. It sounds terribly self indulgent but actors do tend to be very self-critical.”

“I felt like I had a nice rapport with Steven, yet his depiction of it makes me feel like I’m mistaken . I guess that’s just too bad. You know, it may be too much to ask to be in a harness and creative at the same time.”
