After all the backlash Maroon 5 received from their “unprofessional” Chile performance on Thursday night, Adam Levine is speaking out.
Last week was a rough one for Maroon 5.
The band found themselves facing major backlash after their Thursday night performance at Chile’s Viña del Mar International Song Festival.

They were criticized for several displays of “unprofessional” behavior.
For example, the band arrived 30 minutes late to the stage, causing TV presenters María Luisa Godoy and Martín Cáracamo to “fill in for minutes that became eternal for those present,” according to CHV news.
Maroon 5 frontrunner, Adam Levine, was reported to be in low spirits the entire time.
In their review, CHV wrote that Levine was “evidently uncomfortable” and that “his face showed no interest.”
When the band started playing “She Will Be Loved” and the crowd sang along, Levine said to the audience, “Well, if you want to do my job, go ahead.”
The star was “cold, reluctant and preoccupied” wrote Santiago’s La Tercera newspaper.
Then, to top things off, a behind-the-scenes video showed a visibly upset Levine.
“That was a TV show. That was not a concert,” he could be heard saying.
Soon after their lackluster performance, people went online to complain.
“People who see #Maroon5 and ‘Adam Levine’ trending and have no idea why, I’ll let you know. Maroon 5 is at #Vina2020 here in Chile and the show is really [expletive]! Adam sounds awful and he doesn’t have the moves like Jagger at all ☹ We are wondering what happened to him,” a second added.
This person even spent more than a month’s salary just to see the band perform:
Some don’t even want the band to return to Chile.
“What I thought was going to be the greatest concert ever turned out to be the worst. Don’t bother coming back to Chile. We won’t miss you,” this person tweeted .
Levine’s presence on stage was likened to this video of Squidward from SpongeBob Squarepants:
“So yeah, maroon 5 came to Chile to perform in one of the most prestigious festival of LATAM, and their show was [expletive] . Adam’s voice was awful, the whole band was reluctant and bored. They didn’t even say goodbye to their public. I’m so disappointed,” another added .
Francisco Undurraga, vice president of Chile’s Evópoli party, even got involved!
“I apologise for the self-reference but Adam Levine has less voice and soul than my right arm,” he tweeted.
This was a pretty hard-hitting slam against the band since he was born without his right arm.
After all of the backlash, Adam is now owning up to his “unprofessional” behavior.
On Friday, the “Moves Like Jagger” singer posted an apology video to his Instagram stories.
In it, he began by saying what an honor it was to perform at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, since it’s one of the most prestigious music events in Latin America.
He then addressed some of the negative “reactions” to the concert.
“To be totally frank, there were some things holding me back sonically last night, and I let them get to me,” he said.
These “technical problems” made it difficult for the singer to perform at his best.
“It impacted how I was behaving onstage, which is unprofessional and I apologize for that,” he said.
While the band loves coming to Chile, the singer was honest in admitting that “last night wasn’t our best, all I can say is that I’m really sorry.”
Sounding good was a huge goal for the singer, but when that didn’t happen, it was hard for Levine to hide that frustration.
“I struggled a lot and sometimes it’s really hard for me to mask the struggle. For that, I let you guys down and I apologize,” he said.
The singer then mentioned that the band was playing another show that Friday night.
To that, he made it known that they were planning to right any wrongs from Thursday night’s performance.
“We are just so excited to just completely destroy and go up there and put on what will probably be the best show of the tour.”
