I don’t know about you, but I grew up with aunts who were huge fans of foraging for food . They actually got the bug from their mom (my grandmother). And they used to venture out into the forest to look for all sorts of things like berries and mushrooms .
There’s something soothing about being in nature like that but also very satisfying to come home with something you can prepare for your family. However, I had no idea that there are online communities devoted to that. So let us take a look at what kind of fun goodies folks have found foraging around.
This Lucky Discovery

“Damn dude, I could already taste the mushroom! Imagine, sauteing with salt and butter, and then enjoy it with a light crisp banh mi baguette and a hot cup of English breakfast tea.”
Mmm, doesn’t that sound so yummy or what?
This Sunday Afternoon Haul

Check out this fungi bunch here, haha. See what I did there? I hope that made you laugh. If not, then at least I’ve amused myself, lol. Do you know what mushrooms these are? Apparently, they look like boletus pinophilus. What do you think?
These Lilac Ice Cubes

“What a great idea! I’ve added them to honey and just made some lilac simple syrup that is yummy. This is so pretty.”
Okay, I’ve heard of infusing lavender into cocktails and drinks, but I never knew you could do that with lilac too. I absolutely love this beautiful scent.
This Handsome Specimen

And I’m not talking about the man, hehe. No, I’m talking about the giant mushroom he’s holding, sorry ladies. I’m here for the mushrooms only. Also, if you’re wondering, this is “Chicken of the Woods” or “Laetiporus sulphureus.” Aha!
This Secret Hideaway

What’s in there? Somebody on Reddit said a Smurf, hehe. I think they would be right. If there were ever a Smurf hiding spot in the forest, this would be the place. Do you agree with me? And now I want to go there and find it.
This Wild Berry Haul

“Found salmon berries, wine berries, osoberries, and red huckleberries all within a 5-minute walk of my front door!”
Holy moly! Where does that person live? That is what I want to know. I’d like to move into that neighborhood and stay.
This Homemade Sea Salt

“I drove to Maine and collected 10 gallons of seawater, boiled it down over the course of 3 days, and got 2 quarts of sea salt.”
What? Who knew you could even do that? I admit I had no idea. Sea salt can be pretty expensive, so this is a fabulous idea. If you can find it, you’re in luck.
This Awesome Soup

“I made nettle + wild garlic soup today, with a spring garnish.”
Oh, wow! I’ve had nettle as tea, but I never thought about making it into a soup. Did you know about that? This plating looks so inviting. I bet it tasted really good.
This Berry Haul

Something tells me that this person definitely knows where the wild blueberries are. Wow! That’s a great haul, no? I can tell you right now that my aunts would be totally impressed by that. Imagine all the preserves you can make with these? Nice!
This Wild Peppermint

“Wild peppermint that I just harvested and dried.”
“I use mine in Tzatziki sauce.”
Wait a minute? What? You can put peppermint into Tzatziki sauce. I’ve never tried that. It does sound intriguing, though. I’ll have to try that.
These Salmonberries

“Salmonberry season is crazy this year!!! YUM!! I’ve never seen them this big and tasty before.”
Those are some huge salmonberries. Am I right? I have to admit I didn’t even know they existed. And now I’m going to be on the hunt for them. That’s for sure.
This Berry Keeper

“Had to get past the woodland blackberry guardian before I could pick the berries today.”
Haha! You don’t say. I wouldn’t mind it at all. In fact, I would have stayed a few extra minutes, just to pet this black beauty. He’s a good guardian of the berries, no?
This Fir Pine Cone

“First noble fir pine cone of the year in Denmark. So tender, so delicious!”
“What does that taste like? It looks like passion fruit or something, but I’m assuming it doesn’t taste anything like that. Care to share?”
“It’s more tannic than spruce shoots but packs the same citrusy/forest/Christmas tree flavor. Slightly gelatinous and crunchy in texture. The segments are fantastic in salads and mixed last minute into a vanilla ice cream.”
Who knew, right?
This Unusual Hangout

There are so many puns I could create while looking at this picture. Do you want to hear a few of them? Here we go: “That’s one sturdy shroom!” or “Cat on shrooms.” Haha! Do you like that? Not only is this super fun, but also so adorable, no?
These Gorgeous Mushrooms

“Mushrooms are the most beautiful living thing.”
I so agree with that. And when you can eat them and get the benefits from them, that is even better, no? It’s like the icing on a very delicious cake.
This Awesome Meal

“Made fried chicken of the woods sandwich with foraged chicken of the woods.”
So, does it taste like chicken too? I bet it does, haha. I’ll take your portabello mushroom and raise you this chicken of the woods version instead. What do you think of that?
This Satisfied Hunter

“My 10.5-year-old lab recently learned to truffle hunt. So proud of him!”
Ah! What a good dog, huh? He looks so satisfied with his great find. I bet it must be so much fun to have a partner in crime like that.
This Massive Find

“When they get that big, I take the gills, dehydrate and then powder them. An excellent seasoning for a wide range of applications.”
Oh, my goodness. Would you look at the size of that bolete mushroom, huh? It’s definitely a beauty. Am I right?
Wow, what did I tell you?

These are some amazing finds folks scavenged around the forest. Am I right? Who knew you could discover so many incredible edible things if you only need to know where to look, huh?
Just be careful. If you’re not sure, you better bring somebody who knows what’s safe to eat before you venture to forge for your own food. Better to be safe than sorry, no?
