I don’t know about you, but I personally have zero interest in sharing my home with any creepy-crawlies. At least, none that I can see.
But beyond grabbing a shoe, a glass, or a particularly hefty roll of newspaper, there’s not much you can do to keep the spiders out of your house once they’re in it. Or is there?
Thanks to one savvy shopper, we now know a pretty neat trick to stop those eight-legged fiends from calling our home their home because we definitely never agreed to roommates.
With the summer season effectively coming to an end, you can expect to see more spiders crawling around inside your home.
But it’s not for the reason you might expect. Sure, the cold months seem like the perfect indicator for even the creepiest of crawlies to seek shelter indoors.
However, spiders don’t actually have this instinct to escape the cold, and they don’t really need it either.
In fact, like most other cold-blooded creatures, they have a sort of natural antifreeze that helps them resist freezing. So being out in frigid temperatures is really NBD to them.
The real reason why you start seeing more spiders in the winter is actually much, MUCH more disturbing.
You see, those spiders have always been in your house. They’ve just been inside eggs that were laid in the springtime. And around winter is when they start to hatch and spread their eight legs, getting a feel for the big wide world, even if that just means roaming around your living room.
Yeah, told you it’s disturbing. But thankfully there’s a super helpful hack to avoid that!
This cheap DIY hack comes courtesy of Sylvia Crawford who shared the smart tip on Facebook.
According to LADBible , she posted the anti-spider trick to the Facebook page, Extreme Couponing And Bargains UK which boasts an impressive following of over 1 million like-minded, penny-pinching folks.
And suffice it to say, people are loving this super easy and super cheap trick of keeping those spideys far, far away.
The secret? Mint leaves. Yeah, it’s as easy as popping out to the shop and grabbing some mint.
Crawford says to chop up a bunch of the green good stuff and then add it to a bottle of cheap anti-bacterial spray. Then, simply spray that mixture all around your home you are good to go.
In her post, she wrote that she sprayed the concoction on her windowsill and watched the spiders flee from the minty mix.
Which I’m sure was supremely satisfying to witness, and probably made her feel excellent about her successful DIY spider-be-gone.
“They hate mint right enough. Some people use essential oils but I just thought I would use up what I had.”
So it turns out that spiders, like most insects actually, don’t care for mint and will go out of their way to avoid it.
Give your home a good spray down of this stuff and you can consider yourself spider-free. Not only will it keep the current ones from bothering you, but it will also deter new ones from joining in on the party and laying any eggs.
Of course, you could always just leave the spiders alone, since we now know that killing spiders in your home actually does more harm than good . But it’s all up to you.
