There are few topics that can start rousing conversations the way a discussion about tipping can. I am someone that could have the worst service at a restaurant and I’ll still tip 18% because I know what it’s like to work in the foodservice industry — it’s hard.
However, the discussion about tipping delivery drivers is becoming more and more relevant as people are ordering takeout now more than ever.
If you don’t think your delivery drivers deserve a large tip for getting your meal to you, I encourage you to reconsider.
Of course, in a perfect world, these delivery drivers would be paid a liveable wage and therefore wouldn’t have to rely on tips. However, the reality of the situation is that the people who deliver your food rely on your tips to pay their bills.
Sure, delivery drivers are not waiting on you hand and foot like servers at a restaurant, but they’re still *waiting* you.

They’re going out in the rain, snow, hail, extreme heat, etc. to grab your food and bring it to you. All you have to do is open the door and grab it.
More and more, we’re hearing stories from food delivery drivers about how much they rely on tips as part of their wage.
The argument of having to pay a delivery fee on the app and therefore choosing not to tip is invalid. The delivery fee goes to the company the driver works for, not to the driver.
If you don’t want to pay the additional delivery fee plus a tip, maybe you should reconsider ordering delivery through Door Dash, UberEats, or Grub Hub.
Delivery drivers use their own car and their own gas to bring you your food, and sometimes a delivery involves going up stairs, navigating difficult directions or paying for parking.

Even if you can just spare a few dollars, it will really mean a lot to those who are working hard to bring you your favorite meal in the comfort of your own PJ pants.
