Music fans are mourning the loss of legendary singer Meat Loaf, who passed away on January 20th, as confirmed by his Facebook page.
Meat Loaf, real name Marvin Lee Aday, passed away with his wife by his side at the age of 74. Now, fans and fellow artists are taking to social media to remember the legendary artist.
“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side,” the Facebook post read.
“Daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have been with him throughout the last 24 hours.”
They continued: “His amazing career spanned 6 decades that saw him sell over 100 Million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including Fight Club, Focus, Rocky Horror Picture Show and Wayne’s World.”
“‘Bat Out of Hell’ remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time.”
“We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man.”
“We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time. From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!” they concluded .
Although he’s best known for his album “Bat Out of Hell” Meat Loaf was also featured in several iconic films.
Most notably, his role as Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture Show and his role on Broadway in Hair .
My personal favorite acting role comes from his cameo in “Wayne’s World” as Tiny, the bouncer.
I remember everyone being so excited to see him on-screen the first time I saw this movie!
Actually, I change my mind. It might be his role as the Spice Girls bus driver in “Spiceworld.”
I’ll never forget when they seamlessly gave a shoutout to his 1993 single whilst explaining why he wouldn’t unclog the girls tour bus.
Many fans and fellow artists have taken to social media to remember the legendary artist.
Friend and singer Boy George took to Twitter to remember his friend and recall a funny memory of him flipping him upside down in a restaurant many years ago.
Cher also took to social media to share a memory.
“Am I imagining It, or Are Amazing Ppl In The Arts Dying every other Day?” she asked.
IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Marc Lobliner shared a photo of his neighbour and friend.
“We found out after we bought our house that Meat was our neighbor. The first time we really got a chance to hang out was in this picture, and he immediately challenged me to a posedown,” he tweeted.
Sharing personal photos with the singer and actor, it’s clear Meat Loaf fans will be mourning the loss of this incomparable artist for many years to come.
His work touched so many people in the arts, and it’s wonderful to see the positive impact he had on so many.
I know I’ll be listening to the “Bat Out of Hell” album all day today, and tomorrow, and probably the day after.
There are few artists who can stand the test of time as seamlessly as Marvin Lee Aday, and he will always live on in our hearts, and in our headphones.
