If you’ve ever wondered what’s inside a celebrity’s house, you will enjoy Architectural Digest’s “Open Door” series. They are invited to different stars’ homes to see how they personalize it and what inspires them in their free time. Typically, every house is kind of standard with a splash of uniqueness; however, their latest issue about Lily Allen and David Harbour ‘s place is blowing everyone’s minds.
The English Kitchen
The tour starts in the kitchen, which Allen described as a “plain English kitchen.” David recalled a lovely story about their first date when Lily told him she always wanted a plain English kitchen. Designed by Billy Cotton, the theme of the room is Layered Italian, based on this culture, as the house is in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn, so they wanted to incorporate this type of aesthetic.

David said the house was designed for the special women of his life, but he managed to get some stuff that would make it feel like his too. He proudly showed his coffee station, which has a unique hot water tab that Lily is thankful for, as it reminds her to stay hydrated.
They end the kitchen tour with a funny anecdote about the “non-functional lamp,” which was Cotton’s special moment while building the room.
The Garden Room
The next part is the Garden room, where the couple relax in and use their iPads and phones. Green sage and hand-painted flowers bathe the walls of this room. In the middle, is a dark green double-sided sofa in front of a working fireplace that they prefer to use to exhibit flowers. David said that he really loves the wallpaper, which is from a company called Zubar that he said is full of amazing designs.
David’s Creation
Next, they go to the star of the show: the bathroom. David was in charge of this room, where he said he put “a couple of necessary items,” like swam tabs and a pink fridge from outer space. He was inspired by his years living in tiny apartments in New York, where his living room and bathroom were the same, so he wanted some kind of waiting room in case he wanted to relax after brushing his teeth.
The Most Outstanding Room
Like the previous room, the wallpaper is by Zubar, while the tiled carpet is by Pierre Frey; together, they envisioned the floral Parisian theme Harbor wanted for the bathroom. Of course, the room also has a working fireplace, replica commodes from Versailles, and a frame of embroidered STDs bacteria.
A Smaller Bedroom
The master room is an extension of the bathroom, with the same carpet and color scheme. Something that stands out in this room is that there are no windows, other than the ones in the bathroom and closet because David hates to be woken up by sunlight in the morning. Still, they have different lamps to read.
Her And His Closets
They preferred a smaller room, so they used a lot of space for their walk-in closets. It was built by David, especially for Lily; they based the idea on different panels where she could put all her stuff and a vanity with her accessories in the middle. They went with a dark theme for his closet, where David writes his thoughts in his diary.
The Clashing Bathroom
You will find a second, more modest bathroom on the first floor. The theme of this room differs from the rest of the house, but still, it’s David’s favorite. A black toilet, dark checkered walls, and a Soprano vibe compound this room.
Lily Loves Tiger Print
As the tour ends, they show a room full of tiger prints, which Lily designed. “That’s ridiculous,” David said about her idea, yet, she embodied her vision and said it came out as the relaxing media room she desired. For the last part, they invited them to the sauna outside. David got into saunas a couple of years ago, so he built a Finnish sauna in his backyard and a Swelter house with a cold pool.
