A one-year-old kid was tragically killed by a crocodile while out fishing with his dad.
They were just in a canoe, early morning, off the coast of Lahad Datu in Sabah, Malaysia, when out of nowhere, this croc showed up.
Normal day turned into a nightmare
The dad did what any parent would do. He fought like hell to save his son.
But the croc had already grabbed the boy. No matter what he tried, it didn’t work.
The father was seriously injured

Sumsoa Rashid, head of the Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Agency, said: “The father suffered serious head and body injuries. His son is still missing and search operations are ongoing. The man has been taken to the Lahad Datu Hospital for medical treatment.”
He had to be pulled out of the water by some of the villagers nearby. He wasn’t doing too well.
Search teams are still trying to find the child

The kid’s still missing. Teams have been out there searching.
The Royal Malaysian Police are also on it, trying to find the boy’s body.
Locals rely on the river, even with the danger

Sumsoa added: “Many residents there rely on the river for their food and livelihood so they need to go into the water.
We have warned them of the extra dangers at the moment and to be especially careful because the crocodile is likely to be still in the area.”
These attacks are rare, but they usually don’t end well
Crocodile attacks like this don’t happen every day. But when they do, they’re often deadly.
That’s what makes it all the more frightening.
In another case, a croc was shot after hurting a woman

Back in 2022, over in Australia, a 38-year-old woman got attacked while swimming at Butler Cove in Lake Argyle.
That crocodile didn’t make it out alive. Authorities had to shoot it after. They said it was acting dangerously around people.
The Department of Biodiversity and Conservation said at the time: “Both the behaviour of a crocodile approaching the boat and the events of the previous day is consistent with what staff would identify as a problem animal.
“In order to ensure public safety in the popular recreation and swimming area and with consideration to large community events such as the annual Lake Argyle swim taking place this weekend, staff destroyed the animal.”
Not all victims end up dead, but it’s still terrifying
There was another incident not long ago in the Philippines. A tourist thought a croc was a statue at a zoo.
He climbed over a fence to get closer. But yeah, nope. It was very much alive. It went after him.
He made it out alive, somehow. But that could’ve ended real bad.
