A mother has shared that her baby’s gender reveal party was ‘ruined’ after she had to find out in ‘the worst way ever’ and people online chime in on the situation.
She had been preparing for the party

The mother, Jess Gildenhuys, had been preparing for her baby’s gender reveal by buying items for the party at the Card Factory.
The 33-year-old mother had her baby’s gender concealed in an envelope given by the ultrasound technician, which she handed to the store staff to help pick the confetti colors.
Staff had ensured they could keep the secret
Gildenhuys bought confetti cannons and claimed that a staff member at the store told her they could keep the color of the confetti a secret by removing the labels from the products.
But she then found out in the ‘worst way ever’

The mother then shared that while she and her husband were paying for the products, the color of the confetti showed up on the screen at the cashier till as ‘coastal blue’.
Gildenhuys said she was ‘shocked’ and further frustrated when she saw the color of the items on the receipt as well.
She had planned on finding out with her kids

The mother wanted to find out the gender of her baby with her husband and her two daughters aged six and three.
“It’s the worst way ever to find out the gender of your baby, you couldn’t even write it,” she expressed.
Gildenhuys shared exactly how she felt

“You absolutely do not expect your gender reveal to be inside a Card Factory. I was so shocked. It’s hard to be shocked in that situation and keep your cool when you’re in a public place. I didn’t want to make a big deal of anything,” the mother added.
She felt disappointed by the situation

Gildenhuys went on, “I’ve already got two girls. I was convinced this was a girl because I thought I was destined for girls. I’d already bought girl’s clothes as well.”
“It was disappointing because we didn’t find out as a family but it’s also a funny story to tell I guess. I mean what can you do in that situation apart from just laugh about it?”
They threw the party despite mishap

The mother also shared she sent an email to Card Factory about the situation, who apologized for the mishap.
Although she and her husband already knew they were having a boy, the couple still threw a party and used the confetti cannons to share the news with the rest of their family.
They don’t plan on having another baby

Of the situation, the mother said, “Because this is our last baby for sure, we wanted to make things a bit more fun and do something as a family.”
“It was disappointing the way we found out. It was ruined in that way. At least it made it fun for everyone else. I am a very positive person in those kinds of situations. At least it wasn’t just me, at least I was with my husband.”
People online have expressed their opinions
As the mom shared the mishap online, people have shared their views on the situation. One person wrote under her post, “You can’t blame them. They’ve simply scanned the barcode not realizing it would come up as blue or pink.”
Another person said, “Oh dear haha. Maybe next time get a friend or family member to get the items.”
A third person sarcastically wrote, “You poor thing. I can’t imagine going through such a thing in my whole life. Sending so much sympathy to you and your family.”
