She recounted details about the day before his suicide
The mom of six who also shared Madison Brush, Logan Brown, Hunter Brown, Gabriel Brown, and Savanah Brown with her ex, Kody Brown, recalled how she and Arizona-based Garrison were “texting all day long.”
“And this was not unusual because he and I talked probably three times a day,” Janelle explained.
Mother knows best
“I knew he was struggling, and I always just picked up the phone and I always make it a point to just talk to him,” said the Sister Wives star about her son and his anxiety and depression.
“It was just, I think he needed the connection,” she added about the last conversation she had with him.
Then things took a south turn
While she wasn’t alarmed when he didn’t respond to her texts, blaming it on his drinking, saying: “He would go through periods where he was really good and then he just would have a binge just as part of the cycle.”
But when he took too long to respond, she went to Logan and Hunter for help.
She wasn’t worried, at first
Janelle had her sons on it, and she was so sure they’d handle it that she slept. It was when she woke up to their call that things changed.
“Gabriel had found him,” Janelle said of Garrison. “He’s like, ‘Mom, he’s gone.’ I mean, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘He’s dead. He killed himself,'” she continued.
But everything was a blur afterward
“I don’t remember the next few minutes, but I got in the car and drove,” she recounted of her state after she received the news. Eventually, the whole family gathered at Garrison’s place and the shock and grief settled in.
“We knew he was in a bad place. We were doing everything we could for him, but he just, he just couldn’t get on top of it,” she said about his state.
His family granted his wishes
“Kody and I decided that we would cremate him. I knew that that’s what he wanted, so we did that. And that way it gives us the opportunity to have the funeral in a better time of year,” Janelle elaborated.
His final resting place is on the family’s plot in Wyoming. Despite it being over a year since Garrison’s passing, his family still mourns his loss.
