With US President Donald Trump, 78, marking his 100 days back in the Oval Office, it has been a packed few months for the US, and the world.
Understandably, he is hard to get a hold of by journalists, and even when they do, Trump can provide somewhat vague answers, but not when two reporters from The Atlantic interviewed him.
The reporters managed to organize an interview
Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer of The Atlantic were able to arrange an elusive White House interview with Trump.
Their aim was to discuss his second term and how it is one of the biggest political comebacks in history.
Trump dropped a bomb a few days before the meet-up
Trump shared a post on his platform, Truth Social, where he slandered Parker, saying:
“Ashley Parker is not capable of doing a fair and unbiased interview. She is a Radical Left Lunatic, and has been as terrible as is possible for as long as I have known her. To this date, she doesn’t even know that I won the Presidency THREE times.”
Scherer wasn’t spared as well
“Likewise, Michael Scherer has never written a fair story about me, only negative, and virtually always LIES,” Trump added.
This post led to the interview being called off. However, both Parker and Scherer didn’t give up and were determined to get to him one way or another.
When there is a will, there is a way
The reporters managed to get a hold of the president’s number.
“Don’t ask how we got his number. All we can say is that the White House staff have imperfect control over Trump’s personal communication devices,” the duo explained in their piece.
Trump surprisingly picked up
Trump answered his phone and was apparently in a good mood; the reporters saw none of the hostility they were shown on social media and Trump was keen on discussing his “successes” in the White House.
“I’m having a lot of fun, considering what I do. You know, what I do is such serious stuff,” said Trump to the reporters.
They asked him if the second term was different
“The first time, I had two things to do — run the country and survive; I had all these crooked guys,” Trump explained on running during his first term.
“And the second time, I run the country and the world,” he revealed.
He’s open for a second interview
Trump concluded the call with the message that if he liked Parker and Scherer’s story, he’d be open for a slightly more official interview in the future.
“Tell the people at The Atlantic, if they’d write good stories and truthful stories, the magazine would be hot,” Trump concluded.
