Ariana has blessed us with a new single, which would honestly be enough for an article because it’s just that much of a bop. But it’s the perfect timing she had that has made Twitter lose it, and made me realize that she is basically my idol.
While we knew she was a queen, she somehow became even more than that with the timing.
Girl has everything planned and I am so here for it. And even if it’s not because of Pete, I’m sure it crossed her mind as she dropped it within 30 minutes of SNL’s showtime.

I will say that up until this moment, I was pretty sure Ari was just an innocent angel.
Like, yeah, “Side to Side” is pretty spicy, but before I had someone explain the meaning of the song to me, I had no idea. But when she commits, she REALLY does it.
Apparently I was totally not aware that she is a sass master that we all need to bow down to.
And now that I’m aware, I’m more than willing to. Especially if the sass involves dropping new tunes that I will never get out of my head.
Ariana dropped a lot of hints, and then dropped ‘thank u, next.’
And see, we were all ready for a diss track.
You know, for her to spill all the tea and blast Pete just before he was about to be on TV.
And I have no doubts that that’s what Pete was waiting for, too.
I mean, I think that’s what any ex would think of first if they heard that. Especially, you know, when your ex happens to be a singer.
And I have to admit, I almost felt bad for him and the rest of the SNL gang.
I mean, they’re used to it, and he certainly hasn’t shied away from stirring up anything Ariana related on the show up until that night.
But we know that Ari can handle herself, and it was her time to shine.
It would have been the perfect time for a mic drop, but I guess a single drop is the next best thing in the world of Twitter.
Twitter cheered on what we thought would be a petty song.
Ready to have that drama on repeat, ready to make it the song that we would be singing all weekend.
I don’t really know how Pete would have handled that, knowing that the world is watching him while listening to her.
Okay, I don’t know how ANYONE would handle it.
BUT THEN A HUGE PLOT TWIST WENT DOWN!
She released maybe the greatest self-love song to come from exes…ever? And it’s catchy. And it doesn’t diss anyone at all.

And you know I stan a girl who is able to look past the dating and see herself!
Rising above the drama is no easy feat, especially in the public eye, but man this song did it!
And I don’t think this was a part of the plan, but we loved it anyway.
A whole extra hour to get to know what has become my fave song this season? Yes please. Put that ish on repeat.
Mind you, I’m sure we will get a little bit of deets when the rest of the album drops.
Like, don’t get me wrong, I want all the self-love that I can handle, but I want a little bit of dirt. Just a little.
We will have to wait a bit though, which I’m not totally okay with, but whatever.
Like, yes, okay, I know these things take time. But she made this single so quickly that I am so ready to hear the rest!
Apparently this will be the last track on the album too, which I find pretty cool.
Maybe it will go through all the exes and end on that note?
Okay, I have no idea how music writing works and that sounds like a lot for one album, but it would be super wicked.
There hasn’t been any reactions from Pete after the song, and tbh, I think he’s just speechless.
But really, how could you even say anything sarcastic about that song in hopes of getting a few laughs?
Or maybe he had something lined up and theeennnn nope, would not work.
I’d be an emotional wreck if I were him, but then again, I also can’t hear the line “Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm ’cause he was an angel” without tearing up, so…
And even though we love to hate on Pete, he’s just another guy.*
*Another guy who is pretty much a pro at saying inappropriate things on live TV, but that’s besides the point.
Plus, he showed that he DOES have some restraint that very same night.
He didn’t even go near the single or say anything about Ariana and the split, even though he totally did in the promo. Strange, right?
But Ari got her TV time anyway when she brought the new single to “The Ellen Show”, where it belongs.
Giving a not-so-subtle nod to the classic movie, First Wives Club , and trust me, I already know the choreo.
I am now using this song as my alarm to wake up in the mornings, and I can’t believe it’s only been in our lives for a week.
Okay, just under a week. But basically we are all in love with it and it happened FAST.
So fast that Ari actually broke a record with it!!!!
I am very happy that a song that was solely dedicated to making peace with herself is not only catchy, but actually killin’ it in the music world.
And if any song is going to kill it, I’m glad it was the one she wrote for herself.
And I am so, so good with that. Seeing her get through all that she’s been through and still being able to put out hits is #goals.
I think this turned into a love letter for Ariana Grande and I am #SorryNotSorry.
Because if you can’t praise a woman for showing herself some much needed love, then what can you do?
