Kelly Clarkson, John Legend Change Controversial Lyrics To 'Baby It's Cold Outside'

If you've been on the Internet from November to January in the past few years, you've probably heard all the controversy surrounding the iconic Christmas classic, "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

John Legend and Kelly Clarkson seem to have a fix.

The original lyrics have caught attention for being problematic.

Particularly the repeated theme of one singer trying to convince the other not to leave after multiple attempts to do so, and the infamous line, "Say, what's in this drink?"

The drink line originally referred to the singer playfully suggesting their drink was too strong, and now they're too drunk to leave.

However, in recent contexts, some people say that the line sounds like the drink may have been drugged. The songwriter's daughter has said, "Bill Cosby ruined it for everybody," re: the line in question.

John Legend and Kelly Clarkson decided to revamp the lyrics for their upcoming cover.

John shared some of the updated lyrics with Vanity Fair, which go, "What will my friends think... (I think they should rejoice) / ...if I have one more drink? (It's your body, and your choice.)"

More updated lyrics were included in a press release.

These lyrics include replacing the insistence that one singer should stay with lines like, "I've got to go away (I can call you a ride)," and "My mother will start to worry (I'll call a car and tell them to hurry)."

Was this the right call?
